Tractors in France

I hope you enjoyed your stay in France :)
To bad you did not come on over for a visit to our olive farm.
Next time if you are ever in France come on over.

I beleive I can tell you why you see tractors puling trailors. It is very expensive to get a drivers license here. You are forced to go to a private drivers school, you cna't jsut take a written and on the road test and get your license. Nope you have to go to school, which can cost between 1,500 - 4,000 Euros depending on which part of France you are in. To pull those big trailers you would have to have a CDL drivers license which costs a lot of money. However you don't need a special permit to drive your tractor, thus you will always see farmers pulling big trailors with thier tractors rather than a truck.

BTW what part of France were these pics taken in?

The pics were taken in and around Limoges and throughout 87. The pics in post #6 were taken from the court yard of Hautefort castle

That’s interesting about the CDL driver’s license; I suspected something like that, only I thought it might have to do with the cost to license a truck. I noticed France has more different types of traffic signs than you could possibly imagine. Driving in France is an adventure all in itself, actually I enjoyed it.

Yes I enjoyed my stay in France, I was visiting my girl friend, no not an internet dating thing, I met her in Calif, but that’s another story. I plan to go back sometime this year hopefully for more than a month this time. At sometime we plan to visit the southeast, she has friends in Cannes. So it might be possible to stop by. The opportunity to say bonjour in person and learn a little about olive oil, and sample the best olive oil in the world and see where it’s made, I think would be a great experience.

Also by coincidence we have a most supurb condo in Cannes we also rent out for vacation rentals. Cannes French Riviera Cote d'Azur France - Condominium
Our city is beautiful, 40,000 population and we are jsut 2km from city hall. I tend to rate French cities by home many McDonald's they have. If the city/village doesn't ahve any McDonalds will it is jsut a little puddle. Our city of Salo de Provence is a 3 McDonald city. We have a train station and are right it he center between Aix en Provence, marseille, Avignon and Arles. Within 30 minutes you can also visit the Camargue. Stop by any time, harvest is in November and lasts about 5 weeks. That tie f year we are busy full tie with the harvest but if you want to come to work, we'll take ya!

The first picture you had of the EF4 is now made by Ingersol Rand. It is the brand a old contributor had when he frequented here, MChalkey.

ROX, congratulations on your new president. I hope it works out.

I sure hope the America countrysides still look this good after 2,000 years. ****, I hope the American countrysides exist at all.

Say what you will about the French... they in many ways are a much more civilized populous.

For instance, most if not ALL of those machines have Cabs if you happened to have noticed.
:)

(Save the love it or leave it comments for another day ... ).

Can I say the Renault tractors are as ugly as the cars that used to be imported here? ;)

JazzDad, I'll have to agree with you about the Renault tractors. However being a former Le Car owner, those little cars were cute! :D

The Citroen's are quite advanced automobiles actually. First production run of variable height air bag suspensions for instance ...

Do an internet search and you will see retrofits for those air bag suspensions. From BMW to Ford to Subaru, they never really panned out and quite frankly become nothing but an expensive PIA repair. While the adjustable height was a "innovation" from Citroen, the handling was never something to brag about.
