18" in NC - Wow! That must be a record for you. Hope it melts fast for you.
Mike, it is a record for December, but only by half an inch officially. According to our local weatherman the largest Dec. totals for Boone are:
Dec 8-10, 2018, 18.5"
Dec 26-27, 1969, 18"
Dec 1-3, 1974, 16"
Dec 19-20, 2009, 15"
Dec 17, 1930, 15"
Dec 12-14, 2010, 14"
Dec 25, 1939, 12"
Dec 4, 1971, 11"
But those are far from the highest totals in any month. There was supposedly 33" in May 1993, though it was blowing so hard it was difficult to measure.
It's 51 degrees out right now so melting is going on, and we are supposed to have over an inch of rain tonight and tomorrow which will encourage melting further. I went out this afternoon and tried to cut drains through the snow banks into the ditches along our driveway, but with the ditches full of snow I don't know how much that will help. We'll likely get some erosion of the driveway with runoff going down the road instead of into the ditches.
I did finally got the tractor back in it's barn. The lane to the barn is in the sun and has maybe 8 to 10 inches left, and it packs well enough to drive on. I did have to drive over a bank that was well over a foot to get into the door where it's shaded.
