Trade B2910 for 3010?

I would certainly think $1000 sounds a whole lot more appropriate. I was not justifying the $2500 dollar cost quoted, just the fact that most of the cost should be in labor. The wait to have it done is another thing as most tractor shops in my area are always swamped. I have my old International to split soon, it needs a clutch job. The clutch disc on it uses three ceramic pucks on each side. Rat...

Rat,
I agree most of the cost would be labor, and I'm not trying to argue with you.
But this has been the 2nd or 3rd time I've read this certain person posting go with hydro because clutchs are $2500 to replace.
I just don't see where those #'s are coming from.
Dont get me wrong,I like hydro's.
But I also have no problem with gears.(As long as it is syncronized with a reverser).

When I first purchased my tractor i told the dealer I wanted Hydo and the story about the landscaper saying it was $2500 for a new clutch and he said it was not $2500 but was right around $2000. I then went to a New Holland dealer and told them the same story and they said it would cost between $1800 and $2000. Anyway The landscaper has eight tractors, most kubota but is switching everything over to New Holland, that he uses everyday so if he says hydro is the way to go after all his years in the business then I have a tendency to take his advise. He said the wear and tear of shifting doing landscape work is hard on the clutch of gear driven tractors but does not effect the hyro's. He also said the higher inital cost for the hydro is worth it in the end........oh in case u r wondering the reason he was switching over from kubota to new holland was because he said people did not like to see what they believed to be a foreign made tractor pull up in front of their house and actully got several complaints but no one complains about the New Holland and said "they are better for business". He did however say he has been very happy with the New Hollands and would recommend them. (the area he is from is full of automobile factory workers)

The same thing was said by you in the( My new tractor-Manual vs gear.)Thread back in December.
When the time comes to replace the clutch on my DK,I will do it myself for between $100 to under $500 depending on what parts or flywheel machining is needed !

Not to add fuel to the controversy bonfire, but if this landscaper is in business to make money, he may be including lost opportunity cost into the $2500 "cost" for a clutch replacement. How long does he have to go without the tractor to have that 3 or 4 hours of labor performed? Even if the shop turned it around in a single day, which seems unlikely, he would have to consider the income lost for that one day. Now assume that the tractor is away for 2 or 3 days, and you can see where the extra $1500 might be coming from. In my particular case, it wouldn't be accurate to compare my cost to the landscaper's, because I'm not generating any income with my tractor. But as a small-business owner, I don't think it's unreasonable for the landscaper's "cost" to be stated at $2500.

Most hydros have clutches also, the only Kubotas that don't are the BX models. Also, in pricing clutch jobs, things that must be removed have to be priced into the job as labor. Some loaders are not quick detach models. $2500.00 seems awful high unless that was a cab tractor.

I'm not trying to start any war here, but where do you think that NH (Fiat) tractor came from?

oh, I know NH, as with all compact tractors are foreign, so does the landscape guy. The point was most people don't know that and even though we know NH is foreign, most people do not and he quit getting complaints after he switched. I guess perception is everything............
