Tractor
TC29D
All,
I purchased a TC21D w/Turf tires, FEL, and Rear-Mount mower last June. I am very pleased with the performance of the tractor and have had zero problems except for:
1. Some implements such as a Sod Buster are a little tall for the TC21D class frame.
2. I'm somewhat tall (6'4") for the frame and get rather uncomfortable after using for 2 hours, or so.

These issues certainly aren't too major to overlook, but I've recently asked my dealer for a quote on trading-in my TC21D for a TC29D. The tractor has ~ 40 hours on it and and is in great condition. Does anyone have some thoughts on what the price difference should be? I've been pleased with my dealer, but would like some feedback from others on the board.
Also, would my FEL (7308) transfer directly to the TC29D, or do I need a new FEL also?

Thanks for the replies-

Corwin5, are you sure you have a 7308 FEL now? The brochure lists a 7106 for the TC21. The 7308 is the correct loader for the 29D. If you do have the 7308 now I would think at the least you would need new mounts.

Bill,
Thanks for the reply and you are correct- I do have a 7106 at the moment on my TC21D. I was thinking 7106 and writing 7308.

Corwin5,

I am posting a <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.tractorbynet.com/cgi-bin/compact/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=buynh&Number=71373&page=&view=&sb=&o=&vc=1>link</A> to a thread I started on trading my TC33D up to the TC40D.

I think the financial aspect is not good. My guess is you will take a bath on it unless you have a very understanding dealer. Based on some of the depreciaition curves, you might be better off waiting it out for a while and selling it yourself and buying new or used to ease the pain.

I was in the same boat because the TC40D has more capabilities with PTO HP and size and weight.

Good luck!

One year ago i traded a 1998 NH 1725(29 HP) in on a TC33D.
Trade in value on old tractor was $2000 less than what i paid for it. If i had it to do over i would probably sell my old tractor myself. Old tractor was in mint condition with very few hours, however it was 2WD and did not have a FEL.

DrCollie,
I had the swap completed on the 27th. Wish that I'd chatted prior because I likely would have done better with a private sale. I did respond to your private message with the dealer info- I believe they are fair folks to deal with.
That being said, I'm real pleased with the TC29D. If nothing else, for the simple case that this frame size fits me better.
A few points between the old (TC21D) and the new (TC29D):
1. TC21D worked well for anything that I wished to do, including FEL work with a full bucket of gravel. A few times I experienced the unsettling situation where the rear-end was lifting up while operating on a mild grade- new tractor is more stable when operating with a full bucket.
2. The 3 pt. hitch hook-up on the new one is great. Much easier and forgiving to hook-up various implements.
3. FEL joystick mounted on fender vs. near the loader arm. I still find myself reaching past the fender-mounted joystick because I was used to the bucket arm mount on the old one. This makes exiting the tractor on the joystick side a challenge, but is better positioned for loader operation.
4. Big weight difference. I didn't consider this a whole lot before purchasing, but the extra weight on the new one may require removing the FEL before mowing. I put some good-sized ruts in the lawn while "playing". Old one was pretty friendly to the lawn.
5. Welded bucket hooks on the new FEL. Saves time and safer for chain attachment for lifting implements, or whatever.

I'll keep you all posted as I get some more hours logged-
