Trade up to 2520 from 2210?

Today I tweaked my order and requested the R3's (turfs) instead of the R4's. I had replied in another post and told you I went R4's... After seeing the R3's this weekend on a 2520 they appeared to be plenty aggressive for what I'll need. That along with having 4wd convinced me that they'll do everything I need. I'll put the FEL to good use but not often enough to have the industrial R4's. Once all of my landascaping projects are done it'll be a mowing machine for me at least 90% of the time... I'm convinced now that it'll do very well in the snow clearing my drive. Just thought I'd drop you an update.... Keep us posted on the shopping process... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I too will be mostly mowing after my projects are done. The thing is, I have enough projects to last a couple of years and I'm sure after seeing the tires on some low hour machines that are worn, I will be replacing them soon enough and may put turfs on then.

Phew... as I read your post, I thought you were going to tell me "don't do it, don't get the R4's!"... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I just changed on my dealer today, I don't want to change again... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I figure in the long run if I need r4's I could pick up an extra set of wheels down the road. But for now, the R3's should do everything I need them to do... It's going to be a long time before March gets here... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Pick up a good set of tire chains with those turfs and you should be able to handle most anything.

Agreed... my 425 sure pushed a lot of snow with just diff lock and chains over turfs... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif I think I've made the right decision going with the turfs on the 2520. Thanks for your thoughts.

As far as replacing worn out R-3's with R-4's, or vice-versa, you may need to buy new rims. This was the case with my 4100. The front rims fit both R-3 and R-4, but I had to buy new rims for the rear. Actually, I found an old pair of NOS (new old stock) rear rims with R-4's that had zero wear. In my past research, I noticed the 2320 will use the same rims as the 4100/4110, so I wonder if the 2520 will be in the same boat. That is, the need for new rims.

I didn't think about that. I'm just not convinced the R4's are the best choice for me. I'm not that impressed with the traction. Using the loader in 4x4 with the diff lock, I spin the tires and tear up grass and sod in my yard. I think the turfs would probably spin too, but they wouldn't do as much damage.

My uncle has a 2210 with turfs. He plows snow with a front blade, has no ballast and it seems to get better traction than mine. There are some differences since I'm using a loader so I'm just not sure. It's hard to choose tires because you don't know until you try them.

I have had both R1's and R3's on the 2210. I didn't notice much lawn tearing when mowing, and the traction in mud/muck was much better with the R1's. I think I will still go with the R4's on the 2520--but haven't made a final decision yet. About the same boat as you--after the clearing and landscape projetcs, most of the seat time is mowing. Guess this opens up the tire debate issue /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
