I just sent in my last payment to Deere on my 4110, so it's time to think about trading it in. My 4110 is three years old and only has 65 hours on it. It is always kept in my shop. It has the 200CX loader with a 53" bucket and the 60" mmm with the optional kit to "keep it up" when not in use. I also have the JD pallet forks, but I'm keeping that no matter what. 90% of the hours were used by FEL work around the house (5.5 acres). I have someone else mow my place (too good a price to do it myself), so there are very few hours on the mower.

Reason for selling it? I want to get a residential ZTR, maybe around 42", that I can use to mow when I have to, or want to. I don't really like mowing with the 4110. My guess is that I can mow my place faster with a 42" ZTR than with my 4110. The guys that mow my place now use commercial JD ZTR's, and I think it is smooth enough to do with a smaller residential model. Even when I do mow, it's usually only the half acre around the house which is sodded solid with palisades zoysia.

The other alternative is to just sell the mower and keep the 4110, but I think that would be hard to do, and I probably wouldn't get much for it.

So, should I be able to sell my 4110 as described above (less the forks) for enough to cover a 2320 with a 200CX loader (with 53" bucket)? What about trade in value? Haven't talked to my dealer about it yet.

Lastly...I guess the 2320 is the "replacement" for the 4110, and it seems to be a little more tractor. I really like the 4110. Are there any things that I might dislike about the 2320 coming from a 4110?

I will also look at the 2520 (I originally considered the 4115 when I bought the 4110), but I don't think I need the extra tractor ability, and I don't want to get anything that is very much physically larger than my 4110. The extra $2500 in list price doesn't help either.

Thanks,
Ira

Only 65 hours? I would keep the 4110 and buy the ZTR you want. Unless your dealer is going to give you a "great deal". I traded a 4110 a few years ago and it ended up being one of the dumbest things I ever did! IMHO the small frame 4000 Series tractors are just about bullet proof! Godd luck with whatever you do. :)

I personally cannot see what you will gain here, except maybe a wallet that weights less...I definitely don't think you are going to get out of this without spending money!

I would sell your mower, at this point-you shouldn't care what you get for it since you are not using it anyway...

I don't expect to get a new ZTR and the 2320 for the same price I can sell the 4110. I am just wondering if I can break even on selling my 4110 and buying a 2320, due to not getting a mmm with the 2320.

I saw on here recently that someone on Craig's list was trying to sell the same mmm I have (also "like new") for something like $800. My guess is that most anyone around here that has a tractor that my mmm will fit under probably already has an mmm, so I'm thinking it would take a long time to sell mine.

So let's say I can sell the 4110 for the same price as I can buy a 2320 (w/o a mmm). The local dealer is a neighbor, so I got a good price on the 4110 and hope to be able to do the same on the 2320. He made money on the 4110, but not a killing. I saw on this forum that some people got a little better deal back then, but not by much.

Let's say that alternatively I can sell the mmm for $800 and keep the 4110.

Then the question becomes...would you rather have a three year old 4110 with 65 hours in great condition and $800 in your pocket (towards a ZTR), or a new 2320 with no hours and a full warranty. Also, with the latter option, I could effectively finance the ZTR at zero percent for 42 months even if it isn't a JD ZTR by financing part of the tractor instead and paying cash for the ZTR.

I haven't seen one, but isn't the 2320 at least a little of an improvement over the 4110? A little more power? A little more hydraulics capability? Doesn't it have the much sought after cup holder? I guess I will spend tonite going back thru the 2320 posts.

I will probably talk to my dealer tomorrow, but I doubt he has one in stock.

JDGREEN4ME...what did you trade your 4110 in on that you now regret? Is the 2320 a significant redesign (e.g., frame) that suggests it may not be an improvement over the 4110. As I mentioned before, I'm very happy with my 4110. Always does what I ask it to, and never had a problem with it. It just seems like in my line of thinking, $800 for a new machine with a full warranty is a good deal even if the machines are otherwise identical.

Thanks,
Ira

That what I was referring to also, I don't think you can do that...

I haven't seen one, but isn't the 2320 at least a little of an improvement over the 4110? A little more power? A little more hydraulics capability?
The power is "rated" at 24 HP, but at a higher RPM than your 4110's rating of 20 HP, it's basically the same engine. As for hydraulic capacity, the 2320 is rated for LESS then your 4110. The 4110 has TWO hydraulic pumps, The one for the steering is rated at 2.3 GPM, and the implement pump is rated at 5.1 GPM. The 2320 has only ONE pump, rated at 5.6 GPM with 2.2 GPM of that prioritized to the steering, leaving only 3.4 GPM to the implements.
Doesn't it have the much sought after cup holder?
I put one on my 4110, and almost NEVER use it. If you put a soda in it, it becomes a bomb when you open it from all the bouncing. Maybe a small water bottle will be OK, but you have 65 hours in how many years? Your not on the tractor enough to need a cupholder! That 4110 is not even broken in yet!

PLEASE let us know what your dealer thinks...I am very curious:D

I would stick with the 4110, but I am partial to the "old" 4000 series.

Sounds like you really just need to make a deal for the ZTR, and sell your MOWER on Ebay or Craigs list. moving up to the 2320 or even the 2520 does not sound like a requirement for you. Now if you want to move-up, then the 3x20 series is a real move-up! (sorry I just could not help recruiting another member into the overkill club) Matter of fact, why not look at a used ZTR 2 - 4 yrs old, with under 400 hours and get a 600 or 700 series? buying used will allow you to get a stronger and more capable model (even though you may not need it right away).

I agree with Nuru - find a ZTR used from the dealer or elsewhere and go from there. Unless the dealer is going to really, really treat you right on the trade I think you're going to take a fairly big hit on the 4xxx series with 65 hours on it. My 2305 has 65 hours on it and it's barely different that "showroom new".

I'd keep the tractor and the money - that's me.

Good luck!

Scott

I kind of gave up buying new tractors, lose my A**! I prefer nice used equipment and you save a bundle. I don't care if they are not brand spanking new, they look it when I am done with them. If you are carefull, you can get some really good buys. I bought my 4310, 430 loader, 48 hoe, and the 7 Iron mid mower in excellent condition with 400 hrs for 17,500. Not bad for a piece that cost around 33K new. I hated the E-hydro so I got a real nice 4300 set up the same way.

dieselram; that was definitely a good deal as I got my former 4310 (2003, 60 hours), new 300 CX loader, new Frontier 72" boom blade, and the used 72" MMM for a little less than 20k. Tractor and MMM were in super shape too.
