Mahindra 4550
Looking at a new 4540 Mahindra with Fel. Thinking of trading my New Holland TC-30 in. Wondered if anyone here has a 4540 and if they were happy with it.

Not trying to talk you out of the 4540 but I traded my 1720 New Holland for a New Holland Workmaster 50. If you want a utility sized tractor mine has been fine for the first 40 hours. My dealer sells Mahindra, New Holland, and Kubota and does well with all three. Surely someone on here has one.

The 4540 was $21,800. thought that wasn't bad. Is your New Holland Hydro?

No. It is mechanical shuttle shift. They are around $26K in my area. I don't know the 4540 specs compared to the Workmaster. I knew that it would not be the best for finish mowing since it has planetary drives. The turning radius is quite large but I wanted something I could hook up a light baler or mower to if needed. The areas that I mow allow for large turns with few obstacles. So far so good. The 621TL FEL reaches to 119" and lifts 3550# at the pins and 2200# at 800mm. The 4540 looks like a good unit.

I'll have to check out the New Holland Workmaster. Mine has been problem free, I just need a bigger tractor. Thank you for the info.

Seems like lots of people have problems with the Mahindra as there is almost always a thread about some sort of problem or the dealer not covering work under warranty.

I'm sure it will cost a little more up front but you might be better off in the long run sticking with a New Holland.

There was a owner of both a Mahindra and Kubota who had a thread recently that outlined the differences. The Mahindra had cheaper components such as the loader valve and there was quite a bit of corrosion for a tractor that had been shedded.

To me is seems like Mahindra is made to be the cheapest (LS, Branson, Kioti, Montana, etc) where New Holland is actually competing to be the best (JD, Massey, Challenger, etc).

I had it my mind that some of the workmasters are built by LS

The compacts are LS. The utility Workmaster is manufactured in India by New Holland. The engine is Fiat (Italian) and the FEL is made by ALO in Telford Tennessee.
