Trailer Anti-Theft....

Mine is in plain sight, but blocked by my truck. I have a hitch lock and one of those wheel boot things, but the real protection is that they would need to move the dumptruck before getting to the trailer. And the truck doesn't have a hitch, so they would need a pretty coordinated effort to take one or both!

Believe it or not, I've found it more secure to have things out in plain site. Stuff that we have tucked away and hidden, have been picked through. Batteries and copper cables being very popular.

I had a 16' Husdon equipment trailer stolen 25 years ago. The thieves just cut the lock off the hitch and drove away with it.

Before I bought the replacement trailer I welded an axle u-bolt to the top of a 3' mobile home anchor and buried the anchor with just the u-bolt sticking out of the ground. I run a 1/2" chain through the u-bolt and trailer stake pocket, then secure with a big industrial lock.I know it's not theft proof but I haven't had a stolen trailer since.

Another way they can easily steal it is a tilt-bed truck with a winch. Put some fake magnetic signs on the truck Clem's Repo and Recovery.

If they come that prepared you’re pretty much screwed. The good news is most thieves aren’t that prepared and the ones that are probably aren’t stealing trailers worth a couple k. The Kubota dealer got hit for two 95-2 CTLs earlier this spring and weren’t ever recovered. And that was a pretty brave target because the city fuel stop that police sit at all hours of the night is only 50 yards away.
