TRAILER BRAKE,BEARING MAINTANANCE SCHEDULE

If your going off road a lot with trailer, across pastures and such, or recently cleared land, be sure to check wiring going to brakes. A limb, stump, etc., might have pulled wires out or loose...if going across streams, in mud, etc, then may pull wheels and check inside drums for rust, mud, frayed wires, etc. Bearings may need repacking if run in water a lot, (like a boat trailer). Make sure your lights are also working. No need being able to stop in a hurry if someone whacks you from behind because they didn't know you were stopping.

Our Trailer inspection in Nova Scotia just got a whole lot more regulated. Trailers now require the brakes be visually checked on the annual inspection. That means pulling the drums and repacking the bearings every year by a licensed Mechanic.

Does this new regulation count for commercial haulers only, or also for every homeowner trailer?

All trailers are covered. It also applies to all vehicles.

I've never been to the Maritimes. It looks naturally beautiful with lots of history. However, some of the laws/regulations I've come across from there are just ridiculous! Having to pay a licenced mechanic once a year to repack your trailer bearings? Sounds like a scam to feed more work to mechanics in a vote buying scheme by some politician whose brother in law runs a mechanic school, or owns a few repair shops. Arrrrgh!!
