Trailer Brake Problem/Question

There is too much guessing going on now. You really need a 12V test light and volt meter. You can get both for under $10 at Harbor Freight.

my 3 controllers all lite up when you hit the brakes.. either with just a dot or a code showing no trailer.. then with trailer on.. they show percentage or level of brakes.

Check your Ford owners manual , If I remember correctly , there is a fuse in the fuse box under the hood , and a fuse in the fuse box under the dash / of behind kick panel . Check all fuses / boxes . Hope this helps .

And the winner is...

(Actually winners): George2615 and Radioman with honorable mention to Dr. Dave. The new controller (even though the literature says otherwise) does not light up at all until hooked up to the trailer. Green when connected, turns to red when brakes are applied.

Dr. Dave gets honorable mention for the fact that after my testing them in the driveway and one not leaving a skid mark with gain turned all the way up, I revisited the wiring and one side ground was loose.

Soundguy, I guess I bought the cheapie this time that doesn't provide constant visual feedback (if you consider $92 cheap that is).

I have 2 hoppy.. one with 3 led's, and one with a led readout. cost was 35 and 50 ( 7 ys ago ).. cost now is 50 and 80..

both of them light red indicators when brake pedal pushed and no trailer.

I have a drawtight that has a red dot that lights when brake pushed and no trailer... 100$

same with my prodigy.. 100+$

I see walmart has a unit now.. have not tried it.. but know a guy that has one. it stops his trailer.. but I don't know about the readout.

I'd not call it a 'cheap' issue.. just a matter of design on what it 'reports' or not.
