I once was considering building a teardrop camper trailer. There was a forum for it but I don't recall exactly. Google it if you're interested. It might give you some ideas for light weight construction methods.
I think i would use 2x2 and 2x4 s to make a cross braced webbing including triangles then glue and screw 1/4" plywood skin on it. And either make an inside skin the same or gusset the joints with glued 1/4" plywood.
