I think the tongue-tied axle is meant to compensates for the rather skimpy angle used for the frame.

At least he cut the headboard brackets off before using the angle. :)

I think bedframe angle is quite a bit stronger material than A500 angle iron.

You can eliminate the shocks, they are kind of expensive.
