Trailer For Hauling My Tractor and Skidsteer

I wired my own electric brake controller in my 2000 Dodge Ram and it was quite easy. I can't remember where I got the controller but they're commonly available and I'm sure it cost less than $100.

Ditto with the electrical harness for the trailer brake lights. They make them specifically for your make/model so all you need to do is pull off the plug to your rear lights and insert the harness plug then plug back into the harness.

The brake controller actualy just attaches to a good + voltage supply, to your brake light circuit for sensing when the brakes are applied and then runs a single wire back to the trailer plug wiring harness. Control box goes somewhere up by the driver's seat where you can get to it while driving. When you plug in the trailer you plug in both the lights and brakes.

I have narrowed it down between a Kaufman and a Hudson. I priced a Hudson HSE 18 w/ an additional 2ft beaver tail for an overall length of 20ft for 2595.00. That was a 12,000lb gross weight. It had the adjustable hitch and fenders. I priced the Kaufman 18 w/ an additional 2ft beaver tail for an overall length of 20ft for 2300.00. I would have to drive to North Carolina to pick the Kaufman up and only to Chester, VA to get the Hudson. I am not sure which one I am going to go with yet. Which one do you think is the better buy??

Have you looked at H&H Trailers? I don't know how they are priced but they seem to be a well built unit. Their website is http://www.hhtrailer.com. Might be another source for you checkout.

I also looked at Kaufman and hudson last year . I bought the Kaufman it was a little cheaper. I was looking at the 16'with 2' beaver tail 10,000lb. I paid $2500.00 for the kaufman the Hudson was $200.00 dollars more. make sure you get the wider trailer between the fenders that couple inches makes a difference. I think the wider hudson was an option but standard on the kaufman as were the 16 inch tires. I have been pleased with mine I also had a Mid Atlantic 16' landscape trailer with the 7000lb capacity with split gates. I was going to buy another one but it cost alot more and didn't seem to be built any better than the Kaufman. I live in Pa. and drove an hour to get it .

In rgards to the brake controller, I purchased mine for U-Haul 5 yrs ago with my first dodge 1500 and they installed it and had to run the extra wire and install acircuit breaker charged me $40.00 plus the controller. It ia a Voyager by Tekonsha 9030, I now have a Dodge diesel with the tow package which came with a pig tail for the controller and took 5 minutes to install. I tow a 32' travel trailer, and my Lantrac 410dtc with loader + trailer it works very well.

I called the Kaufman Trailer Factory and was talking to them about the trailer I wanted. He said that he could make it. I got the price to 2300.00 if I come to the factory and pick the trailer up. That to me is a hell of a deal. That was a 20' overall lenth with a 2ft dovetail. 12,000lb Gross Weight. 16inch wheels. Dexter Axles. 1 year complete warranty. I am going to highly consider that.

Tractorteen,

If you ever decide to add a BH to your tractor, the ramps on your trailer need to have as less angle as possible. The BH will bottom out when loading and unloading if the angle is to steep. Just from my experience. I have a B7500 and a Woods 7500 hoe with the subframe.
