Trailer Mower - Who has them?

Checked out a used vermeer tm 800 today. The dealer says it is 1.5 seasons old and was used by a retired guy that didn't do much with it. He upgraded to a moco.

Started out at $10,500.

Started to look it over and the blades are really hammered. Then I noticed one was gone.

The tension setup was wrong on one side. It was on the wrong side and was not engaged.

The cutting bar looked ok.

He said $10k and he puts h puts new blades on it.

I am kinda Leary of used cutters. I might just hold off until next season and buy a new one.

The vermeer seems to be the leader at this stage.

Those blades are worth maybe $30-35. Out of adjustment I can see that. When my wife and son bought the Kuhn is was all out of whack, way too much head pressure and the knives were installed with the grind bevel down and they were trying to mow light crop, Orchard Grass and Fescue, it's no wonder they didn't like it. Got an independent guy that could look over it before making a decision?

That's one rusty cutterbar on that Vermeer, I guess no used motor oil lying around ;-)

Did you check out the rock dents on the side shield of the JD 630 they have? It says great shape but that things been hammered.

After looking at that one online. The used one at my local dealer looks new in comparison. If it is still on their lot come nov. I might get more serious about it.

On every used disc cutter I've ever inspected the cutter bar was rusty after setting idle for a short period. I've never read in operators manual where it stated to oil cutter bar after use to keep rust from forming.

It will be shined up in an acre or so of mowing.

Why?

I get it some people lie to oil thing up before storage. I was worried about my cutter too. It is amazing how fast they clean up going thru the grass.
