Trailer overloaded, you think??

I'm surprised it didn't bend the spring hangers or break the springs before frame would bend. plowking

It comes with hydraulics at least partually. You are less aware of the weight if hydraulics does the work for you.

Looks like the loader only had the one place to put it and I'm guessing that nobody thought it was that heavy. I don't know what that loader can lift, but guess it has a 3 yard bucket on it, which should be in the 12 to 15,000 pound range. The log wasn't a challenge for it, but placing all the weight on the front of the trailer was.

In all honesty, I would probably done the same thing. The loader looked like he did a nice job of being gentle with it. If I wanted that log, I might be the one in that position. Hindsite is pretty easy when you see others mistakes, but I'm not experienced enough with big logs like that to know what they weigh or what the damage would have been.

Bending the frame on the truck just would never have entered my mind. I'm still amazed by it. The trailer, well that's fixable and sort of meant to be abused, so that's what I would have expected to be damaged.

Eddie, I'm surprised at your comments - but you have a lot more experience than me so maybe I would have done the same (don't think so though). That tree is a monster.

Once my buddy saw two fellas drop a tree stump (probably 10' high or so) into a truck box. Crushed the truck like crazy. The tree was not as big as this one but it was still darned big. The guys told my pal to stay out of their business when he suggested they not do it.

Oh well, we all live and learn!

you know i just brought home a bunch of logs like that yesterday myself. they ranged from 5k to 10.5k! there is no way i would put that on a 1/2 ton. i too two trips with my 3/4 ton and then used a tandem axle log truck to bring the biggies...it was still an effort to get them home safeley.

Looks like a write off to me. I know some folks Ive loaded in the past theink thier machine is bg and bad as a Mack with walking beams. When I worked for Huffman on a job in Alabama we were blasting alot of limestone. This Rich doctor that had a 941 track loader and and old dump truck was building an RV park. Every day we loaded him these chunks of shot rock. It was a bit of aggravation because we had to tie up a loader or excavator to load hime but that was one more load we didnt have to put into a mobile grider or bury. One day I went to ask him some thing and didnt see he was on the phone. He reamed me out over it. I felt my feet get hot and run through me. He had a fair IH dump truckthat was made out of an old Cab over. It was chromed out. He pointed a t a big rock that I barley could handle with my 300 Komatsu hoe. In fact it took a # yard track loader and rubber tire loader to push it out there. He pointed at it and went to cussing. I put the hoe in heavy mode and used the accumulator bucket to muscle the rock up. when he backed under it I was running out of lift and thought about the cussing I got. I let it down swuftly. It bottomed the old IH out and spread the bed apart. He took a bad beating in the cab. Then the next time he came out he was the nicest feller you ever could meet and also would listen to loading suggestions lol.
When I load a person with compst or mulch out here I have them understand that Im not liable for damages or accidents due to loading. I know Ive loaded into some pickup trailers that have 30 year old tires on them. I loaded a load of wood chips the otherday and the old man was mad because I wouldnt heap the load up. I had my yard bucket on the load and he still didnt beleive I had 2 yards on the trailer.

:( its sad to see your truck to be bent like that.

the trailer in the pic is 5 bolt axles. 3500lb'rs

while the trailer may take more weight (if loaded right) the axles wouldnt. with a trailer weight of 2000lbs your looking at a rated playload of only 5K lbs.

could you stretch that shure. but my guess is that log was over 10K lbs.

had you had a 10K lb deck over trailer, and loaded the log right, my guess is you wouldnt have had any problems. (but 1200lbs is a lot of tong weight for a 1/2 ton pickup)

I wish I had my camera with me the other day. I passed a 1/2 ton full size bed truck about a half mile from Home Depot. It was loaded with a full bundle of 12 foot sheet rock. It was pulled over in a parking lot with the rear of the load almost dragging the ground and the truck bed bent just like the one in the photo. I dont know what the guy was thinking. I guess he thought he would save a few dollars on the delivery fee.
