Trailer rental in MA

Does anyone know where you might be able to rent utility trailers in North East MA? Most of the tool rental places no longer rent trailers due to the liability.

I have occasional need for a 16' trailer to move my CUT. I would buy one, except that I have no place to store it. Renting is my best option, but in calling all the rental places, they have stopped renting trailers (at least in MA). They say there is just too much liability if someone misuses the trailer and causes an accident.

Ryder small truck rental places had them..
RSC rental places have them and RSC has several locations throughout Mass

rscrental.com? No locations in North East. Ryder trunk rentals usually only have car carriers, and those don't have flat beds.

Any particular reason you can't rent a car hauler and just tell the rental place you are towing a heavy car? Works like a charm so long as the trailer you get is adequate for the load. Be prepared to give him make and model of the "car".

We still have one place locally that will rent up to a 12000 lb tilt equipment trailer. I told him how much I appreciated it at the time. Now I have my own but will remember him if I need some other rental.

Most rental car trailers are the open type, with just the two rails for the wheels. Doesn't work for a tractor very well.

Be sure to check that those rails aren't adjustable. Not every car is the same width so some accomodation must be made. The BX23 is pretty skinny though so you may need a flatbed.

I drove myself (and many others) crazy trying to rent a trailer. The local rental places have the empty ones just sitting there but they only use them to deliver and pickup their own equipment, they simply will not rent the trailers.
I considered buying one but that brought on a whole set of other issues. Can you tow a L3130 with a Mazdarati on an expired license, I don't think so.
I finally smartened up and hired a local towing company with a ramp truck to carry it the 35 or so miles to the site in CT. $150 and he will bring back anything you can drive or drag on too, so if you have some log length firewood it's ok. For that kind of money and only needing to move occasionally that is what I recommend. He has insurance and owns the liability.
Shorter distances are less expensive. You lose the independence of owning your own trailer but you do keep most of your money. Not a bad deal really and reasonably convienient too.
So the answer is no, I don't know where to rent.
I was told the same tale about rental liability, I think that is rubbish. The use of the trailer is beyond the rental company control. The trailer liability is covered by the tow vehicle insurance. The most they can lose, I believe, is the trailer if it's mangled. They have the same liability if a rented trencher damages a gas line or if a backhoe drives into a car on the road. Rubbish, rubbish, rubbish.

Try a local towing company.

The story the equipment rental companies give me is this: "We can rent you the trailer as part of equipment rental since we know the trailer is sized to the equipment. If we rent you the trailer alone, we have no idea of what you will attempt to carry on it. That leaves us with a liability we just don't want to deal with." As an example, one company told me that a customer hauled a shed with the trailer, and it fell off. Fortunately, no one got hurt, but the investigation that ensued made them decide not to rent trailers anymore.

In the end, I did manage to fine ONE company that would still rent's trailers. Pretty much $80 a day all up. I'm just looking for others in case this company decides to stop renting too.
