Trailer size for CK3510 (no backhoe)

I use a 16’ with a 2’ beavertail, so 18’ overall.

As stated, longer trailers tow and back easier. I have little desire to go beyond my 16+2’, though, because storage becomes an issue with increased length.

Also, consider the deck height for ease of loading. My 7k car trailer is easier to load than my 14k equipment trailer. Both are the same length, but the heavier trailer has larger tires and thicker frame members, so the deck is higher off the ground.

The car trailer handles the relatively light ck4010, but not the heavier CTL.

22' IronBull 14,000lb. Any shorter than 20' would have made balancing a touch harder with the backhoe attached. It was delivered on an 18' but they had the hoe swung off to the side so it would not hang off the back. I agree with the others though if you can get a bit longer you will be happier when towing. Best of luck in your search!

Thanks for all the replies, TBN!

I do intend to purchase a new 20' (maybe 22') trailer at some point in the next year or two. I'm looking for a shorter trailer as a temporary measure that will also be useful for other purposes once I get the longer trailer. I have a small trailer presently, will eventually have a long one, and am hoping to get a used mid-sized one for the moment. I just don't know everything I want to get the longer one presently, nor do I have time to carefully investigate. Furthermore, I do not presently have a tow vehicle that is well suited to hauling 4+ tons. My current tow vehicle (big 70s truck) will tow a lot, but is legally limited to 7000 lbs, so saving a few hundred pounds on 4-6' of trailer makes all the difference.

Another data point. I've trailered my CK3510SE HST on my 14' utility/landscape trailer (7,000 lb axle rating). That's with the FEL and 60" grapple, and a box blade attached. It hauls fine that way.

But I don't plan to do it often! To get it loaded without removing anything, I had to open the grapple part way so that the front trailer rail was between the jaws, then lower the grapple to rest on a 6 x 6. The front jaw hung out over the trailer tongue.

Bit of a pain to load that way, but it's doable.

Note that no one suggests shorter than 18’ unless your attachment is a box blade. Even then the idea of a couple of implements simply does not work for a 14’ or less. My 3510 with FEL and 5’ cutter plus trailer comes in at 6800lb which is officially 80 lbs more than my 2005 f-150 is rated for but I would rather be over by 100# than have my cutter sticking out 6’. Even then there is zero room for other implements so you really need to think through what is important, how many trips you might make (going back for the extra implements might make sense) etc vs the legal and especially safety implications.

I have had 18 and 20 foot trailers. I like the 20 footer better although it is not quite as nimble.
