Trailer snatcher for 3 Pt. Hitch

Dargo,
I had made a similiar device for my use to move the camper trailer around and it is very handy to use with a utility trailer for huling stuff around. My trailer hitch thingy did not use the standard reese hitch specs, but worked the same way. I have removeable hitches on all of my equipment. Just keep a hitch in the towing vehicles. It makes it hard for someone to steal your trailer if there is no hitch on it /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I like the no-crank hookup.

I am currently building another hitch thing for my 3 point with a 2 stage vertical hydraulic cylinder to raise the hitch ball about 3 feet high for dumping stuff out of my utility trailer. Good for spreading gravel.

I too am just making things to make my job easier and did not realize that the patented device existed until about a year after I had made mine. Oh well I am not selling them.

Dargo,
Sounds very similar to the one that I made. Just do a search for "3-point hitch". You will find this very handy if you have as many trailers as I do to move. I will try to attach the link to my post.

You said

hitch attachment that allows me to back up to any trailer with my tractor and pick up and move the trailer without getting off of the tractor

Hi
don't you have to get off the tractor to lock the hitch to the ball? the first time i tried moving a trailer without securing the hitch to the ball the trailer bounced up and off the ball.

I use my hitch thingy, but I lock the ball on after pickup, just no cranking or lifting. I can just imagine not locking it down and the 24 ft camper bounces off the ball and goes careening down the hill /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif bummer.....

Lazy,
Ya know, sometimes when I want to go out to get the paper out of the paperbox I just slip on my shoes and don't tie them. If I'm going to go jogging I generally make sure they are tied. If I'm going to just move my trailers around in the barn I guess I'm generally guilty of not attaching the lights, putting on the safety chains, attaching the break away brake, latching the ball, and putting a lock on the latch. I suppose it all depends on your intentions when you move your trailer. I guess at times you may want to latch the ball.

Stumpman,
Cool device! Looks like you had the same "let's make it unbreakable" idea when you made yours. Mine weighs in at 36 pounds. Although it is of a different design, it looks like yours has a similar strength capacity. As you know, it does take a bit of time to cut out and weld up and paint. I think I'll just stick to making ones for friends and neighbors because at the $62 figure I mentioned earlier you can obviously see that I was not planning on using this rig as a "get rich" setup. I just thought I'd see of others here might have had a desire for one, and I believe I got my answer. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif If anybody wants one, I do have two more made up I could sell. If anyone interested, just email me and I'll send you a picture of it and you can decide if you want one. Thanks!

I made one for drawing hay wagons around the fields. It is egg shaped, made out of 1/2 by 5" flat. connects at top and sides and the quick hitch at the bottom that opens via a rope and closes around a drawpin when you bang into the wagon. The tongue on the wagon is held up off the ground with spacers so I can snag it without having to scrape the dirt. When I'am gathering round bales I can sit in the seat all day long and set the wagons wherever I want without getting on and off to pull pins on the tongue.

Here is the 3 Pt. Hitch Reciever that Richard made for me this past fall based upon his design. This weekend was the first time I had a chance to use it. Sure was a lot nicer then to draw bar attached to the lower lift arms and it rolling back and forth as you move. I could actually back the trailer up. I was even able to find some Krylon paint at Wally World that matched the NH pretty well.

Note: I didn't adjust the 3 Pt. Hitch to make it level as right now my MMM is level and for this I didn't care. You can see my little trailer in the background that I was using.
