Trailer sprayer help

Some folks go by the saying,

If a little bit is good, then more is better and too much is just right.

The problem with that is, I have seen weeds die too fast, burns the tops off and then they come back. If they die slower, then the roots seems to die as well.

I like to see the weeds wet with spray, but try not to have too much... I like to spray in the mornings and when it all happens right, I see some wilting by afternoon, then a slow kill....

I have a 30 gal sprayer and mix 1/2 oz per gal. each of Amine 400 and Ortho Weed-B-Gone concentrate. Seems to be an ideal mix (for me) for succesfully spraying lawn weeds once in the spring and again in the fall. 90 gal will cover the 5 (about) acres of my lawn.

I run about 15 psi. Higher than that gives me too much drift (neighber wiped a good band of his neighbors alfalfa with drift this spring).

Spray at a speed which is comfortable to ride and close to mowing speed. The 6' boom is across the front of the tractor and the tank is on a trailer behind (with the 12v pump).

Thanks for all the help. I've been tied up at work this week but have been monitoring this post.
I've got my charts here. Amine says for 1000 sq ft to mix 1 oz to 4 gals water. I'll buy that. That's about what every one sounds like they use. Now for the kicker. The tip chart that came with the sprayer says at 20 psi 1 mph will give you 1.4 gallons per 1000 sq ft. if I'm reading this right. So I would have to spray at 1/4 mph to get 4 gallons on the 1000 sq ft. Is that right.
I could try to post the chart for all the mathematicians out there if needed.
Thanks.

To Teg. I'm right up the ridge on Mowbray Mtn.

I know what you mean... but I still let this thread slip away... Have you used the sprayer? Here are some thoughts (random as they are)...

Amine says for 1000 sq ft to mix 1 oz to 4 gals water.
If 1oz/4 gals is to cover 1000ft2... It works out to 2.7 pints/acre or 43.56 oz/acre. Mixing that with 4 gals for 1000 ft2, you are looking at 174.24 gallons per acre (gpa)!!!! which is super high... 15 to 30 is normal... would help to see the label...

The tip chart that came with the sprayer says at 20 psi 1 mph will give you 1.4 gallons per 1000 sq ft.
1.4 gallons per 1000 ft2 = 61 gpa - 1 mph is slow but if you speed up to 3 mph that would work out to be about 20 GPA (which is about right).

So I would have to spray at 1/4 mph to get 4 gallons on the 1000 sq ft. Is that right.
0.35mph (but you'll have GPA *way* up there?!?!? (this part doesn't seem right...)

I could try to post the chart for all the mathematicians out there if needed.
That would help but if you can post the brand / concentration, would be better... or if you can you find the label at this site???
Labels MSDS Home Page

Average use for Amine is about 2 pints/acre (or 0.75oz / 1000 ft2) at 3 mph, your rig should put out about 20.34 gpa so mixing 2 pint in 20 gallons sounds better... which works back out as 1.07 oz/gallon...

Of course this information is worth what you paid for it ;) I've had a drink since math hurts my brain. :confused2:

Yes I've used it. I mixed 1/2 oz amine to the gallon. Also put about 6 oz of the Ortho weed b gone in there. Got out the tape measure and know how to go about 2 mph +- . Ran it at 15 psi. I did the spraying close to the time of the last posts and just cut grass last weekend and no more dandelions. Thanks everyone for the advice.

Now,,,,,,, anybody know how to get rid of dallis grass?
