Trailer too high or BH too low or is ramps too short?

Thanks for the ideas.. This is a gooseneck lowboy but still has a high deck I guess from the 16" wheels/ 7K axles.
First off in my sleepy stupor typing last night I incorrectly said my ramps are only 2', 45 twelve hour graveyard shifts in a row are starting to get to me:eek: . My ramps are about 4' and I am considering making ramps 1-2 foot longer only to be used when the BH is on. Secondly I am not smart enough to unload it in the field, the earth would be much mor foregiving than concrete:eek: .. I did try backing it on it still hit.

I am also going to raise front of trailer by lengthing the gooseneck about 4" so when the trailer is loaded it would sit level rather than low in front.

A set of wood ramps to extend the trailer ramps would decrease the load angle & protect the road surface. Length & height to suit. MikeD74T

Here's the idea in action.

As you can see, one plank on the ground on each side (1-1/2" thick) was just enough. I'm going to double them up anyway, in case I have to unload on a hill.

Four feet is much better than two feet! Just ask any horse! ;) I feel much better now! :)

Your solution looks really great! I may borrow that myself for when unloading conditions give my own ramps too steep a slope for the backhoe!

Builder- Looking at his set-up I would expect the hoe subframe to hit the trailer before the rear wheels were far enough up the ramp to angle the tractor. I have the same problem with my JD4300. No problem if it scrapes a bit on gravel or dirt but for pavement I throw a 12" piece of 4x4 under the bottom of the ramp. You don't notice a 4" step when loading but when the subframe screeches accross the concrete everyone looks to see what you are doing wrong....

Make the ramps longer, or switch to a tilt deck.

Builder... I think I am with Pat...at first I wondered the same thing, but I think he's right about the subframe... good solution though... 4X4's are great for many things and not a huge hump to crawl over.... although I have heard of some issues when HST's are invloved..;) But that's a whole different debate...:D

Yes you are correct about the HST issues, this is an example of where they are perfect for a slow climb up an uncertain surface over a 4" hump....
