There is no doubt about it - the Ford 300 cid inline 6 cyl was the epitome of towing power plant. While it is the same displacement as the 5.0 L V8, it develops way more torque at lower rpm - which is exactly what you need for towing.

I have 92 S-10 with a 4.3 V6 and I pull a 18 foot Featherlite aluminum car hauler(model 3110) for the Yanmar 1610d and my classic cars(vette, mustang, & camaro). Granted, I dont go more than a county or two away, if so, I borrow my father's 3/4 ton Chevy for the long trips. I have added to my S10, air bags on the rear suspension, K&N air filter, split dual exhaust and a brake controller. The truck and trailer work well together. The only problem is with the truck's 3.08 gear ratio. It takes a little time to get up to 55.

When I was young and dumb and full of.......well.....never mind, I pulled a 12 ft U Haul trailer with a 4cy Vega to move from Hinesville, GA to Savannah, Ga.. made 4 trips stuffed full of furniture.
