trailering with a Tahoe

I had a 2004 Yukon (Not the Yukon XL) and moved my 4310 all the time with it. Was it the best tow vehicle? No. Did it do the job? Yes. I had the 3.42 rear and it was 2wd. Properly loaded, I felt safe. Would I be doing 75mph on the highway, no, but it did get the job done for the 4 years I moved my tractor with it. I will say, moving it now with my F350 is a very different experience.

When the body style changed in 2000 for all but the Limited and Z71 which kept the old body until 2001, all full size GM suv's had coils on the rear. My '02 Z71 with 5.3 and 3.73 gears hand\led 7000 lbs in mountains with no struggles, stopped fine and the Tow/Haul mode combined with cruise control made towing much easier. I would not go much over that, though.

The Tahoe and Suburban are based on 1/2 ton chassis's although a 3/4 ton suburban is still available. They different from the trucks in the fact that they use a rear coil spring suspensions versus the silverado's with leaf springs. The suspension is softer sprung on the tahoe and suburban. Give me the last 8 digits of your VIN and I'll look up the equipment yours has and the tow rating. Your problem like stated will be tongue weight and short wheel base. Problem with renting the trailer will be it most likely will not be equipped with weight distributing which will make a very big different with how the vehicle handles when towing that load. -GM Service Advisor

Neighbor just traded his crew cab diesel Silverado for the 3/4 Suburban/GMC.

He tows a 10k, 24' enclosed tag trailer that often weighs more about 500 miles a week...

The biggest reason for the switch is he was tired of the trucks rough ride and small tank.

The Suburban/GMC has air suspension and a bigger tank and a great ride... he said towing is a pleasure again...

Not necessarily, A GMC Yukon XL or Suburban 3/4 ton came with leafs I know up till the body change in 07 (or 06), and I think still do in the newer ones. That is an easy way to tell a 1/2 from a 3/4. That and the 8 lug wheels.

i have a 2000 yukon with 5.3 gasser.. it's the long one.

I pull a 16' car hauler or horse trailer behind it.. no biggie. has e-brake controller.. etc.. stay within weight limits and you are good to go.

I understand that, but he was talking about a Tahoe, they're all 1/2 ton.;)
