I was just asking for information. What I have not done is measure the FEL, tractor and bush hog. All the information is interesting. Oil bath axles cost about $1500. - 2,000. more.

Thanks

I have a 24 foot gooseneck/dovetail. I can give some general observations. The gooseneck adds about 1000#. It tows very nice but weighs 5,000# empty. This is only 9,000# load. The deck is 20' the dovetail is the last 4'. It is "pop up" so it can go to a 24' flat. This is a "deck over" so the tires are under the deck and the deck is rather high.l No spring assist on the pop-up (option) and is quite heavy. Gets heavier all the time. The popup dovetail section and ramps are "self cleaning" they are fabricated of angle irons to assist cleaning out the mud from the tire cleats. Clay on the tires on a wood deck is bad for traction. I also got the deck over neck or "hay hauler" option. A light duty expanded steel deck to hold more stuff over the neck 102" wide and 96" long. I also did the 102" width. The trailer came with the E-Z lube axles tandem 7K singles. The trailer ran me around 4500$ a few years ago. I got it out of eastern ohio. ( appalachian trailers) It was a cheap model for occasional hauls to the dealer, picking up heavy supplies, and Misc things. Not a year round thing. There are better and more expensive MFG in Oklahoma and texas. The one thing the trailer does not due well is torsional stiffness. Some of the better MFG use a torque tube or tube steel rather than channel steel or I beams. Overall I am happy with what I got. Not so expensive that I need to keep it in use, good enough to do the job. If you can't go to 14K and need to stay under 9990# don't go gooseneck. A lightweight tag along can be as light as 2000#-2500# ( aluminum deck$$ narrow width low type car trailer type 22' long) and that can haul a narrow set tractor up to 7500#. Although my goosenck has the deck over neck the useable deck is 24' and the overall length is 34' - it eats up some yard space. And as a side note - I know of no trailer with GOOD wiring. you will be re-doing that in short order. They use scotchlocks to do the connections- you may as well dip the wiring in salt water. Options that are out there that I did not get due to money$$ and weight - yea weight thats it. Spring assist for the pop-up, two speed landing gear, dual landing gear, got 14K#GVW, 20K# was an option but not leaglly towable by me. Standard width is 96" 102" is an option. Good luck.

P.S. I looked up the place I got it- Here is the link Trailer

Electrical work is a definite quality indicator. My trailer uses the recessed rubber mounted trucker style lights available at any truckstop. The wiring uses rubber sealed plugs like on my chevy pickup and shrink wrap over any connection outside of a plug. Lot's of dielectric on the plug in connections. They even used the little silicone filled wire nuts when they hooked up the brakes. They ran the brake wiring inside the axle tube from side to side.

So there are guys out there that do it right!. I also have a small car trailer and a GN dump, all different MFG's and all the wiring has issues out of the factory. Glad to know someone does more than just get it working.

One of my biggest pet peeves is those silly clamp on splice connectors. I could handle rewiring this trailer if I had to but I really was impressed.

Side note:
It is nice to see that some people actually know the law that a trailer over 10K requires a CDL, along with all the headaches that goes with it.
I don't worry about it, but I drive a truck for a living. Something to keep in mind when your building your dream trailer.

I said that in some post, and got a lot of disagreement.

BTW, anyone from Jacksonville can't be all bad!

Not to get in the CDL talk I have mine. But if you have farm tags on the toe truck and are towing for the farm I think the 5 ton is rasied to 10 ton. Anway I have a 20' flat with a 4' dove on my duel tandom. If I had a choice on buying a new one I would get 25' + 4'or 5' for the dove. Here is a pic of how full it can get. I had a flat bed put on my old Truck a J & I MFG in OK. I towed it up there bedless. I had to worm the truck from side to side to get the ramps to close. They would hit the front bumper. Also hauling hay it would be nice to have the extra trailer. I can cain my ramps back and have them hold more round bales.
