I have a holmes 18'x8' dove tail 7500# trailer that does fine and never been to light for the tractor. However i would if i had to do it over agian buy a 24' 10000# trailer. The reason is that the tractor loader and backhoe on the CK 20 fills the 18 footer up and there isnt much room for other tools. You might get one more took on it. The reason i would go with 10k is that by the time you firgure the loader, tractor with water in the tires and backhoe plus the wieght of the tractor you are at about 6500-7000# you ad a couple tools and you are over easy. Now i have done it but if the Trooper stops you he isnt going to be happy with you.

16 footer with two 3500 lb. axles for7000 total lbs. at a minimum. Bigger is always nicer so long as you choose to spend more and storage is not a problem.

Most everybody will tell you go bigger but i'm just saying this 16 footer works for me and I'm talking TLB. Pllenty of room to balance the rig out with 10% of weight on hitch also.

Take a look at the picture and note that I still have room for more load or adjustment especially if one turns backhoe boom to the sides. This trailer is a car hauler.

I agree you need at least an 18' trailer. For occasional hauling a 7K would be just fine. If you're going to do a lot of hauling with some extra attachments then get a 20' 10K. I don't know what you will be pulling it with but you're probably going to at the limit of a 1/2T truck. No problem for a 3/4 or larger.

So, assuming you are trying for the economical answer:

I have a 12' (platform size, not including tongue) tandem axel with sides to allow for hauling other stuff. The front bucket curls over the front rail and the BH is turned to the side for the rear ramp to close.

If I had my time back I would go with a 14' platform, however I had bought the trailer just before deciding on the tractor. Mine's a fully galvanized trailer, and I got the LED light option, so I'll have it for a while.

AS you can see from my photo to the left, I have a larger machine than yours and I have an 18 foot dove tail tilting deck over trailer that handls the tractor no problem. Mine is a tri-axle 9 ton trailer, way over kill. But I find the length to be perfect.

I do like the deck over a lot.

Good luck,
Joel

I would like an 18' deck over tilt bed.
*What do you like better about it over a between the wheels bed?
One thing about that is it sets lower than a deck over.

Here is my CK20 on a 14ft Big Tex and 16ft Cronkhite trailer:

Click thumbnails for larger images

The size works good but the backhoe needs to be turned to the side to fit because I wont put the loader over the tongue. I have seen too many bumpers dented when making sharp turns.

This was a rental trailer since I rarely move my tractor but when I purchase a trailer of my own for this setup it will be a 10k 16-18ft with ramps, wood flooring, LED lighting and electric or surge brakes. I like the surge brakes because I can hook it up to either of my trucks without the need of a brake controller and no worries of electrical malfunctions. The electric brakes are more responsive and controllable but both do the job very well.

Here is my 16' dump trailer. The box blade is back against the gate, the bucket is tied down on a pallet in front of the tractor, and the landscape rake is strapped to the forks. The gates will swing open flat next to the sides - on some trailers the doors hit the fenders and will not be flat against the sides. If hauling the brush hog, I chain the doors open and red-flag the back of the brush hog (which sticks out).

JonKioti -- That's a really sharp trailer you have there. The galvanizing is a nice feature.

Have a look at my trailering thread for lots of input from Kioti folks.

CK 20 Trailering thread

The link above is to the last post in the thread showing the pictures of how I bind the machine down to the 16' tandem axle 7000 lb trailer we use.

Good luck.

LBrown59: These sides aren't removable. They are on my other trailer and it would be nice if they were but either way the wheels tend to get in the way.

Derek - I'm with you there on denting bumpers. That happened to me once - when I let my friend borrow my truck and trailer, **** it.

Q-Saw - Thanks for the compliment! I was hoping for a trailer that would last as long as I needed it.

Mmmmm....you have a big dump trailer. I'd love a dump trailer that size; my dump trailer is a 4' x 7' with manual jack.

So JTPilch, does any of this help?

Jon

I have a used construction equip trailer, 12K rated, 14 ft bed lenght with beaver tail and ramps.
The deck was shot , removed it welded in new cross braces, sand blasted, had it painted with Imron, put on new rough sawn ( for traction)white oak decking. also rebuilt brakes, bearings, spring mounts and hangers, and all new LED lites all for about $1600.
With creative loading I have no problems getting my CK20HST TLB, and either my box blade or tiller on, for approximately a 5000lb load.
As far as a tow rig I use my Dodge 2500 coversion van (makes it work) or my Ford F150 crewcab with the HD tow option, rated for 8200lb trailer, hardly know its there.

Brown, I like that width is not an issue, I have a lot of room to maneuver on the trailer.
