Update; Thanks for the help. I ended up buying AW 46 hydraulic oil from from Sam's at $28+ for five gallons. I was told by the salesperson that he uses it in his JD. Does anyone know what the AW stands for, I'm assuming "all weather"?
When I changed the engine oil there were two pan plugs where as the manual shows one. I removed both plugs, was this correct?

As long as your manual list "hydraulic fluid/oil" you should be fine. ISO 32 weight is more common than a ISO 46 viscosity hydraulic oil. A ISO 46 is equivelant to a SAE 15 weight oil and a ISO 32 is equivelant to a SAE 10 weight oil. The "AW" stands for anti-wear and is refering to the additive package in the oil

If the manual states you need a UTF (universal tractor fluid), power transmission fluid then DO NOT USE a hydraulic oil. These type fluids have a different additive package.

Basically if the oil you are replacing is used for only the hydraulic system then it's probably a hydraulic oil. If it is a common sump system that uses the fluid to lubricate the trans, rear end, wet clutch and wet brake systems then you need a UTF or power trans type fluid.

You can use UTF as hydraulic oil, you can not use hydraulic oil as a UTF oil.

Thanks for your reply DieselPower it is obvious that you know what you're talking about.
My manual calls for multi-grade transmission fluid equivalent to:
Shell Donax-TD, Donax-TM
Mobil-Mobil Fluid 423
Exxson-Torque Fluid 56
Have yet to come across any of the listed fliuds.
Can you help again?

You need a UTF type fluid, NOT a hydraulic oil.

Spec sheet for Donax TD http://www.shell-lubricants.com/products/pdf/DonaxTD.pdf

Universal Tractor Fluid's (UTF for short) are a lubricant used in common sump type systems. They have additives to deal with wet clutch and brakes, extreme preasure additives for transmission and rear gear applications, anti foam additives in addition to being used as a hydraulic oil. Hence the name "universal" tractor fluid. If you stop by most any tractor/farm supply store (like TSC) you should be able to find UTF oil. Some wholesale clubs like BJ's and Sams also have it sometimes. Your local fuel/oil supplier will also probably have it. It can be purchased online, via phone, etc... Its not hard to find if you know where to look. :)

When it comes to knowing oils Diesel Power is "da man" to ask. His explanations are very clear and precise and since he sells oil for a living he is very knowledgable.

MoKioti - as I recall, Sam's does carry the UTF fuild in the 5 gallon buckets (even has a tractor picture on the pail).

In answer to your drain plug question, yes, drain BOTH. My oil pan has the drive shaft pass through it, creating a "well" on either side. The two plugs allow you to drain both wells.
