Think I'm gonna have to work on the tranny in my 95 Chevy pickup. I'm a little disappointed at 100k miles, but it's lugged around everything from boats to bobcats for years without complaining, so I guess it's time.

Considering just changing out the whole she-bang. Anyone want to make a recommendation for a source for a GOOD rebuilt tranny?

I know a good trans. man here, but it might be a fur piece to drive /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Really the best option is to get one from the dealer, got the same warrenty as new.

Good advice, but sadly too rich for my blood. My local dealer is REAL proud of his trannies. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Makes trading trucks look like a better idea. Maybe that's the master plan. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Go to a few independent used car/truck dealers in your area. Be honest with them about why you're there and ask who they use or recommend. You could even try to see if they'll make a phone call and get you their pricing on the rebuild. Give the guy fifty or a hundred bucks for helping you out. It'll probably save you at least five hundred.

I wish you were closer. I actually have the tranny you need sitting on a shelf here. No doubt that I'll use it on something I buy, though. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

How much is a new one VS haveing yours rebuilt? Around here they run around $1000 to $1500 for rebuild with 3 year national warranty.

I FEEL FOR YA' . I've cooked them all, T-350s, 700-R4s, T-400s. I was keeping GM in business for few years I think. To be far I did in some Ford C-5? trannies as well.

I had several T350s in old Caprices and a 700R4 rebuilt in a later model Caprice. The T400 I had replaced was standard equipment in a 79' CJ-7 with a V-8.

I used several different places and believe it or not the rebuilt that shifted most like the factory setup and lasted well was from Aamco. They were a little pricey but I talked them down a few hundred.

Good luck, I hate tranny troubles and remember all too well that oops... no go /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif feeling I am still paranoid when it comes to the trannies and it's been years since I had any troubles!

When I replaced my 700r in my 91 Chevy 4x4, I bought a factory reman from a dealer. Yes, like you the local dealer was expensive. I called to Indianapolis, the big city, was lots cheaper. They delivered it to my work for free.
I had called the local trans shop, they were the same price.

Like Moss said came with a 3 year 50,000 mile warranty.

Hadn't thought of that. I've got a good friend that's been in the used car business for eons, haven't seen him for several months. Sounds like it's time for a visit!
