If that is the same tranny setup as my 2444 then the repair if a shifter fork should be pretty simple. The top of the tranny just lifts off and pretty much everything is right there. If a good enough deal , go for it. Thhis might be a fairly common problem, my 2444 came from the Army coprs of engineers with a spare set of shifter forks 
But they have not been used in 15 yrs either, so I don't know. Perhaps the origional ones were bad and the replacements last ?
More symptoms please, does the gears just grind when you attempt to engage them ?
Will they appear to shift but not engage ?
