Watch the micron rating of the filters, I would not use any filter above a 10 micron. Fuel systems components are just to expensive these days to save money on a filter.
In general, you need a water blocking/separating filter on a storage or transfer tank mainly to deal with condensation and crud that accumulates in the tank. That is the main point.
The filter on the engine is the real place to think about safeguarding fuel system components, and that's true whether it's a tractor getting fuel from a transfer tank or road vehicle getting it straight from the pump.
