That is so true. And good deals take forever to pop up, unless you're willing to settle for anything.

Back when I was just getting into machining, people on forums told me stupid things like, "Don't buy an Asian machine! Wait around! I got a lightly-used Bridgeport for $750." Those guy were so lost, they thought that was actually good advice. If I had listened to them, I'd still be waiting for that $750 mill.

Coupled with the fact that many men start machining when they're 20 years from the grave, it's even worse. "Honey! Push my bed over to the lathe!"

I did fine. I would rather have a $5,000 gas midget excavator, brand-new, than sit around staring at Facebook Marketplace for the next 6 months, and I definitely don't want to buy a trailer and drive to far-off auctions.

I would never have paid full price for this machine. In a couple of years, I will be lucky to get $2,000 for it, and I would rather lose $3,000 than $6,500 plus tax.

I'm trying to buy a used diesel zero-turn right now, and it's extremely annoying, sifting through the offerings and waiting. I wish I had bought a new one pre-Biden, when they cost $5,000 less.

I know this thread is a bit older....but I bought a $5K+ mini and I'm pretty happy with it.
Yes, it's jerky to drive and you can walk considerably faster than it can move.
But I'm 73 and digging isn't in my wheelhouse but the need to dig, transplant, trench still is.
I'd do it again.
