I wish the industry used clearer designation for tractor hydraulic fluids. I have learned a long time ago that paying a lot for an item doesn't always correspond with guaranteed superior quality. And a lot of us don't have the luxury income to just run down to the New Holland or IH dealer and pay twice the price that we would for a premium fluid elsewhere. I agree that 303 is outdated, designed for stand alone hydraulic systems, and shouldn't be used in a modern combined transmission/hydraulic system. But how are you supposed to know when you are really buying what a modern tractor needs? The way it was explained to me by a long time tractor mechanic is that if it says Premium UTF on the label it is the right stuff. It is that simple. You can pay $50 for 5 gallons or $100 for 5 gallons, the choice is yours, and the performance won't be any different between the two.
