Is anyone else's hydrostatic transmission not backshifting or returning to a dead stop? When I push the floor pedals forward or reverse and release them it doesn't stop dead. It will slow down but not stop, which is not to safe in tight quarters. Any one know how to fix it?

Go to page 21 in your operators manual. Hydrostatic Neutral Adjustment procedures for the neutral return adjustment bracket are listed. Not the easiest job in the world, but sometimes necessary. Best to let your service dealer do it if possible /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Make sure the peddles and bushings for the peddles, linkages get regular oil or lubricant....otherwise they get sticky and do not return to their original position....this is what I found on mine

Well...I brought it to the dealership and they have tried all of the normal fixes to no avail. They are now looking to open up the hydrostatic if Cub Cadet has no answers. I don't really like the idea of the tranny being opened up...but what do you do....

Yetii, none of the new 2000 series will come to a screaching halt when you release the F or R pedals! If you peek underneath at the motion control rod assembly, you will see a small gas assist strut just like the ones for the liftgates and glass hatches on cars/trucks. This strut is what 'softens' the transition when you mash or release the pedals. Without it, you'd have to hang on for dear life or kiss the steering wheel or get tossed off the seat everytime you take your foot off a pedal. It is a possiblity that strut/shock is too strong or defective on yours, or something is loose under there. I had a loose bolt (one of 4 bolts) that holds the whole pedal cradle assembly. I would have your dealer replace the strut first!! I cant see how this is an internal trans issue.

The dealer indicated he has tried these fixes as well as other adjustments, but none have worked. The tractor takes about 50' to 100' to come to a complete stop at full speed (foward or reverse). My dealer has been selling cubs for over five years and says he has never seen a problem like this. Being in the mechanical testing engineering field I am pretty good at the hands on stuff and trouble shooting...but this problem has me and my dealer stumped....hopeully the Cub guru's know what is going on....
Not really in a hurry as I have 3" of snow in the yard...

WOW! 50-100ft is a bit of a hazzard!! Will the tractor stop dead if you grab the forward pedal and pull it back? If it does, I still think this has to do with the dampener strut. I don't have a lot of faith in dealer troubleshooting in regards to issues covered under warranty. They can't afford to put too much time into it. To make matters worse, they are only 5yrs into the product line.

I understand about the strut, but I have never seen a gas dampening strut get more difficult to move, they always get easier to move which would give the tractor the opposite problem. After my coversation with my dealer they have already replaced the strut...not the problem.
Yes it will come to a dead stop if you grab the pedal or push the opposite direction pedal. The transmission works well other than this problem. It is only a concern when I am cutting in a tight area...it is just unsafe.

I think the problem is from a bad vavle in side the transmission, from the pump.the flow should stop, which should stop the tractor.when petal is depressed.

I just talked to the dealer and the dealer is changing out the hydrostatic pump, at the request of CC. THey are also changing the hydrostatic oil and filter. I feel much better that it is only a swap out and not a rebuild.
