transmission problem

Did this just start? Is the Case 580 new to you? Have there been any issues with the way the clutch has been acting? What condition and level is the transmission fluid?

I don't know much about these tractors but if there are no unusual noises coming from the transmission then I would suspect the interlock mechanism in the shift cover. Most manual transmissions have something like this so that you cannot shift into two gears at the same time.
