Transmission Question

With a 95~ hp engine 2' in front of me, and enclosed wet brakes 3' below me and back a couple feet.. I never get the chance to hear 'that rubbing' sound...

Shifting gears on a hill sounds fairly dicey.. gotta brake, clutch and shift all at the same time on a gear model.. and heaven forbid you start rolling.. you'll never get it back in gear.. thus no engine breaking= wild ride.
