I'm thinking of buying a BX22. I currently have two places to do some work at about 9 miles apart. I will be selling one place soon so don't want to invest in a trailer to haul the tractor. I'm curious how long it would take to drive the tractor back and forth, or what others may think they would do if faced with the same situation.

thanks,

p4tc, 9 miles is a long trip by tractor! I did three miles before I got my trailer. My tractor does 11 mph in high gear so it was an 18 minute trip. Roads are pretty quiet, but I still got a bit uneasy with traffic. I also found it a pain to be out at the property with no ability to run back home or to the hardware store if I needed something.

My recommendation to you is get a trailer and tow your tractor. You won't regret it /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I moved my B2410 11 miles due to the approaching forst fire. Took about an hour to make the trip.

It would take you over a hour, and, although I don't about the BX, I have driven many Case backhoes on the road, and you won't go full speed because of all that weught back there (the hoe). If you try, you will bouncing up and down like a broncing buck. Get the trailer.

If you don't want to buy a trailer, how far would you have to go to rent one? 9 miles each way is a loooong way on a 10mph(at best) tractor. Remember, to get to 10mph, you are going to be cranking high rpm that whole time. And, if you have implements on, things are going to be bouncing around a lot, possibly limiting you speed to well below 10mph.

I'd rent a trailer first, or arrange for some other transportation.

Thanks for the replies.
I wasn't sure what a comfortable transport speed would be with a BX. A JD I used on a golf course moved along pretty fast(I think around 20mph). Now that I think about it, I also remember what it was like driving the Case BH/FEL. Like a huge rockinghorse on wheels. So, you all a right, I'll have to use a trailer.

When I got my AC B I drove it about 12 miles to get it home. There is no comfortable speed to drive that old tractor. I look foward to getting a Kubota. A tractor I can work with rather than work on.

Thanks again

I wouldn't want to drive a BX 9 miles on a road. Driving anything slow down a public road can be risky. I've found that our BX at work is also slower than all our other tractors, and even driving a couple hundred yards down a paved road can make you want for the tractor to go faster. Driving 9 miles would get old fast.
I know what you mean about the JD moving right along; our 1050 is pretty fast as well.
