Transporting a 6 Row JD Flex 71?

I just purchased this 6 row Flex 71 planter. This is a rather large unit and I have to travel almost 200 miles to pick it up then drive home. Anyone know how difficult would it be to remove the planters so that I could put this on a 5' x 10' flat bed trailer. How about the weight, the fellow I am purchasing it from is not sure of the weight? What kind of tools should I bring to partly disassemble? Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Figure approx. 150lbs per row unit, plus weight of toolbar and fertilizer units. I'm racking my brain to recall size of nuts that hold u-bolts to clamp units to toolbar. I THINK they're 13/16ths or 7/8ths". The tongue should be removeable also. If that's a single axle trailer, you'll have a real load on your hands. Looks like a nice set up! A little "green" and a little "red"!

I hauled a four row unit in a half ton ford pickup with no problem. Put the lids up front with the driver so you do loose them. What's the white tanks for? bjr

I'm hoping to remove all of the planters and put them in the bed of my truck lids inside, remove the tongue and strap the rest of it to the trailer. I'll see how it works out.

The row units are held on by 15/16 inch nuts. Each row unit weighs 120 lbs 4X7 tool bar is 25 lbs per foot, Category two hitch assembly is a few hundred lbs. Pretty rare to find one with the fertilizer hoppers. Nice job on that. I would suggest borrowing a larger trailer or renting one from a local rental store and haul it back in one piece. Trailer rental will be around 50 dollars. If you need any parts or plates I have plenty of both.

Now that I looked at the pics up close I see that it is the 2 1/2 inch solid bar. Weight is a bit less per foot then the big square tube and the hitch assembly weighs alot less.

Thank guys for all the suggestions. I have her back home. Much less of a hassle than I thought it would be. No seized bolts. It came right apart. I traded it for a for a few pieces of granite which I just happen to grow around here along with limestone. It was more work unloading the rocks by hand than loading and unloading the planter.

Each of the 71 flex units is complete with all sprockets, chains, gage wheels, and included were a few extra plates and parts.

You got a heck of deal. I gave $900 for mine and had 200 mi ea way trip. I've already had to contact Yetter for some diffuser tin plates that go in the bottom of the hopper. I got some new seed plates from Lincoln Ag product for the corn seed I used. I'm curious as to what crop and seed and ratio of gearing and spacing you'll be using. You can download a mnaual from the Yetter site for free. I'm still learning about mine. I found out I have two #70's and two #71's as one takes round seed tubes and the other takes retangular seed tubes. There are some difference in the chain tensioner adjustments also with different guides on them. The nine toothe sproket has to be ordered from JD (spendy). I've only got to plant less than a half ac. this year, it did real good on that. I wound up using 6" spacing for the guy I planted for. I hope to do more next year. I would like to get the fertilizer hoppers but I don't know where to look for them. I would like to get aftermarket hoppers if there is such a thing. bjr
