Why not, I don't see any problems with it.

I used a chinese 3" semi trash pump all last summer to water the new lawn from my pond -- we have had so much rain I am just getting around to hooking it back up this weekend:D
I made a "manifold" out of 3" abs drain piping and fittings that screws right on to the outlet of the pump and allows me to hook up five garden hoses. I usually
hook up four tripod type sprinklers and cover about 30 by 30 yard space. No issues with water pressure:D
This year I am going to run three inch hose for the first 25', then screw the manifold onto that to go further afield so to speak:eek:

As long as you only desire volume the trash pump works well. Pressure is another matter.:D :D

Studor,
I'm a little late to the party, but a picture of your "manifold" would help me out. I'm trying to irrigate my food plots from a river with my semi trash pump and would like to see your setup if possible.

Any other ideas to convert the 2" pump outlet to a sprinkling hose setup?

Don't have a pic but it is pretty easy to make in either 3"or 2". I bought a three inch threaded abs to 3" abs pipe fitting and glued a piece of three inch abs to it. Then I used Y fittings to get branches off the main piece (I used three but you could use as many as you think you need). Then at each outlet I used reducers to get it down to 3/4 pipe thread and installed a ball valve at each with a hose thread fitting to attach garden hoses to. The whole 'manifold" is then screwed on to the pump outlet, hoses hooked to it and away you go. If you have some discharge hose you could also hook the abs manifold to it for a longer run -- I do that to water an area about three hundred feet from the pond. With 2" it would be the same but the fittings would be cheaper:p.
Will try and remember to take a pic this week and post it.
Almost forgot -- because you have lots of volume, when you reduce it down you get good pressure

Thanks for the reply studor! If you get a chance to post those pictures, I would appreciate it.

I set up a system that has worked well. I went with a 1.5"pressure pump, a 1.5" filter then ran 1.5" 160PSI poly pipe along the edge of the property, I put in 11/2x11/2x3/4 tees in and hose bibs to garden hose thread every couple hundred feet. The last two rolls of pipe I bushed down to 1" Flow and pressure have worked fine, running five sprinklers no problem, now it looks like I need to make the pond bigger! I would think the trash pump would work fine with this kind of set up. I also made an adaptor to go into the discharge( I went to cam locks from Northern Tool ) That is a 1.5 Tee that has four garden hose outlets incase I want to use the pump else ware.

I have also used a similar pump to water my garden. Ran 2" hose up to the garden then branched off to four sprinklers. Only problem I had was trash (dirt/pond debris) getting into the sprinklers and causing them to spray inconsistently. I've since moved and never got to perfect it, but i'm sure you could get around any problems with time.

I was having the same problem but I think I got it now. put the suction in a 5gal pail and covered the top with window screen (added a couple of window weights to keep it down) and then got a 1.5" filter , Dripworks - Heavy Duty Filters for Drip Irrigation systems
I got the commercial spin clean and just open the drain before and after watering and no more plugged sprinkler nozzles.

You can make a pretty good intake filter from a piece of "big o" drain pipe covered with old pantyhose:p.
