I hear you. Fire codes around here are rapidly moving targets, some places more than others. I notice that Oakland and Berkeley seem to have recently gotten religion over fire code enforcement. North Bay got it after Santa Rosa, and down here soon after that. Our recent roof required 1/16" slits with screens, and a 1/4 covered peak vent.

We have the same issue and 140+psi fire pumps seem to be as rare as hen's teeth and pricey to boot. Plus, I would want more than a dribble at the top of the trees...If you find one, let me know.

Lucky you.

All the best,

Peter
Except the meter fee for 1.5” service comes at a price…

If you have active crown fire, water and pumps aren’t the answer. That is an indirect line and burn out operation for a team.

If you have an active crown fire, you'll need some Chapstick, so you can kiss your a$$ goodby!

25 yrs ago we bought this place. There was a young firebug in the area. I was on the tractor and saw the wife waving and pointing at me. I turned around to see a fire started on the neighbors property. I raced down the drive and up the road and across the ditch bank. In 2 minutes I was racing down the grassy slope towards the fire now about 20x40 ft in tall dry grass. I hit full force dropping the gannon on the outer edge a few more passes and quick shot through the barbed wire fence...sorry about that but it had to be done.
The fire dept shows up, wife called it in, and said they could not get their truck across the ditch and it looked like I had done a fine job extinguishing the fire. They suggested I stick around for an hour to ensure it didn't restart. They eventually caught that little basterd. He had started 7 similar fires in a 2 mile radius.
2 yrs ago the field on the other side burned after someone dug up an Edison service line and caused a mobile home to go up in flames. There are 8 small tractors in the community. They were all there to help. You just never know when or where you will get the call to fight fire in So Cal. Every summer the spring growth dries out and turns brown just waiting for an ignition source. That could be accidental or evil. We just have to be as ready as we can be.

Fire bugs have started the vast majority of our local fires, and there's nothing like neighborhood cooperation.

All the best,

Peter

What gets me is I call in a fire set by transients that like to set fires and the fire department arrives and puts out the fire and the firemen say to the person “Stop it”.

Police say it’s a Fire Department matter.

Sometimes twice in one day it happens.

No consequences it seems?

It’s always an individual and mostly female but also male.

One woman wanted to go to psyche facility but it didn’t happen… 3 hots and a cot plus hot shower and clothes laundered.
