Thanks for the pic. Now...do you have a pic of you putting that pole in!? It looks like it would be tough to place that thing-a little top heavy ya know. Did you use tractor, crane, 10 friends...just wondering in case I ever try to do this.

Too bad more of it is not re-refined.. or put to use in ways that don't have such an environmental impact.

I took no offense.. just needed to make the point... I sat thru too many ecology and environmental sciences classes to not say anything. I've done alot of work on water systems.. both potable and waste water / stormn water..e tc.. direct (point) source poloution is a preventable problem..

You are right -- it should be illegal everywhere not just the U.S-- but is it better to do this???
"Currently, more than half of the used oil collected in California is shipped out of state or offshore to be burned as fuel, resulting in toxic air pollution (such as phosphates, sulfur, and heavy metals including zinc, cadmium, copper, lead and benzene) and CO2 being released into the atmosphere. California's strict air emissions standards do not allow the burning of used oil."

Sorry if you took offense

Anywhere from 20 to 25' high is perfect. At 20' the light is a little more concentrated and brighter on the ground in a smaller area. At 25' it spreads out more but it also causes more light pollution for your neighbors since this is a concern in your area.

I have some photos of the lights I used in my arena. These lights come in several different styles. Mine were made for use on a ship and they are saltwater-proof, aluminum lights and more expensive than your regular parking lot lights. One good thing about these is that they run on either 110, 208, 220, or 440 volts. Using them on 220 volts allows you to run cheaper smaller wire to them than if you use 110 volts because they only use half the amps on 220. These have larger reflectors than most of the hps lights but they are so large that you can not mount two of them on a small utility pole so I need to get one 1000w light for my corner pole instead of using 2 of these.
