tree planter ideas

In need of ideas for a tree planter, have access to small trees but use a shovel, have made a scoop/digger and we will drag it thro ground, it leaves a nice trench some 8 inch deep with the soil mound each side, issue is raking the soil back over the roots, then driving close will pack the soil in 2 passes, anyone ever built a planter that will cut trench, allow one to put a tree in trench and then replace soil,

Not sure how small the small trees are, but if your ordering form a nursery or your Soil and Water Conservation Service, you may consider an old tabacco setter (1 row). You can pick them up (used) for under $1K and probably plant 1000/day, pulling with a 30HP tractor. You would probably need 3-4 people to get this done ( 1-driving tractor, 2 planting, and 1 following the planter, straightening and firming soil). If you are looking into bigger trres, consider a potato plow, that opens a furrow about 18" wide, then disk the furrow in when all the trees are planted.

Our soil & water cons office rents tree planters that are pulled, you RIDE on it like an old style plow and place the trees/saplings into a small holder which slides down into gro9und planting tree & automatically covering & firming soil around it... not sure what it is called but try calling the county soil & water district and or the farm office. I planted some 5000 trees which were givent to me as a re-forestation grant. so far some are growing some are just setting there others croaked. less than 5~8% croaked
