Tree planting

My neighbor planted a row of identical size and species tree along his long driveway. He said never again, he would mix up species and size.

The reason is as one or more of the "identical" trees die off, it leaves a hole you cannot fill.

I'm not really sure I'd go with all larger trees. I like a mix of different sizes and features. I have some that bloom in Spring (Redbud, Cleveland Pear, fruit trees), some that get colorful in Fall (Oak, Maple, Cleveland Pear), some that stay green all year (Cedar, Pine), some large, some small.
