it looks safe to me, about only exception, is perhaps a better guard to keep a cut off stump from flopping back on the cutter.

the video is showing tops of the trees cut off. so only thing that is left, is short stump coming out of the ground.

ok after seeing full video, that looks rather dangerous, cutting a full size tree down with all branches still on. poor blade, took a beating when the trunk fell back onto it, *just kinda cringed* wondering how quickly the blades got messed up. then the video shows trees that already have a lean in them. vs trees that have almost a nice level vertical trunk on them.

Unless my tractor had a full safety cage I wouldn't even consider using that thing.

why bother to use it to cut trees down with it. use it as the next best thing- cutting the stumps flush without ruining your chainsaw. That the only thing I would use it for other then cuttings trees less then 6 inchs diameter for EASY safety.:thumbsup:

Kind of misleading picture--Specs. say min 85hp -pic shows a compact maybe 30hp. I think it might be ok as a stump grinder-- not for felling trees. :confused2:

kind of like a fellerbuncher for a tractor. not a complete bad idea. some improvements are needed. the TreeHog 40 needs min. 40 pto hp

Well this thread brought the safety hyper's out of the woodwork.

Of course, taking into account the lean of the tree and where the weight of the tree is located would be important things to do before cutting.

The pic shows a small tractor (CUT or sub CUT ?) but lists minimum of 85 PTO HP. So I'd agree there are some suspect advertising happening here.

I have a friend that owns one just like this. I don't believe it is that brand. It cuts great. The tree pusher feature on it will allow you to push all but the biggest leaners over. I considered it very safe. The only thing I didn't like about it was looking back all day. My advancing age has made that difficult.
My friend runs his on an estimated 100 HP JD and the only problem that I know he has had was smoking slip clucth when he 1st got it. I noticed on the video that they were only cutting stumps. That is really not a very good test other than cutting speed.

Ummmm.... Not the best Idea for tractor/operator longevity:confused2:

A tractor would need to be full FOROPS, falling object roll over protection system equipped also. If anybody has watched machine timber felling, the inevitable rain of branches or just one HUGE branch or the top of the tree will find the machine in a quick, violent, piercing not so nice way..... I know

If you have that many trees to fell, hire someone that knows what there doing with a saw or a feller buncher.

This thing should just be used on big lilac bushes and such

A little bit of refinement making it like a quadco felling head with a hotsaw, grab arms 360 degree tilting ability and then mount it on the f.e.l.... that will make something happen
