I’m in the market for a tree shear. Those that have them, do you rotate it much? Enough to justify having hydraulic or is manual rotating ok?

After I sold the tractor I bought a tree puller:
Haven't missed the shear, but if I get one it will rotate.

I have a cl fab puller. Would like a shear for the bigger stuff I can’t pull

I have an earlier version of the Precision Hy-Reach shear linked below. The cutting head HYDRAULICALLY rotates to any position between horizontal and vertical. That rotation is nice for clearing trails, when you need to drop and buck trees that are too long to haul out with a grapple. Also, rotation let's you prune overhanging limbs.
Getting in and out of a skid steer cab to MANUALLY rotate it as needed would be about as much work as just using a chainsaw.

Been looking up the Precision. Anything you don’t like about it? They say it’ll cut between a 9-12” tree. How hard is it to get a 12” in the jaws? It’s another 1k more than the Jenkins but the extended reach looks nice except they say not to use it to stack brush

If I had one I’d want it to rotate. I’d use it to cut up trees in more manageable pieces to burn.

Yeah, they're out there near you, somewhere. You should stop by, if they allow it.
I had a nice talk with someone from their upper management at a farm show in KY. Really knew the product and they had also sent one of their welders to help cover their booth, which I thought was good management. I ordered mine on the spot.
My earlier version was advertised at 7" capacity and it had something like a 5" diameter hydraulic cylinder. I was told by the company that whatever I could stuff between the jaws, it could be cut. They also said that I could cut roots below the surface without a problem. While I didn't crowd the cutter too often, I suspect they were right.
My only issue was that the 5" diameter cylinder is too slow if you have a lot of smaller bushes/saplings that don't need that much cutting force. After talking with another knowledgeable rep at Precision, he recommended trying a 3" cylinder with the same clevis geometry as the 5". I bought it but haven't tried it yet.
Not familiar with the Jenkins so I can't compare.

I saw they were in Sedalia, might have to take a trip there. I like that they can cut at or below ground level
