I moved to a new place last December and am now faced with clearing land for growing a large garden and a serious drainage problem with drainage at the wood line. This is a picture of the woodline and standing water on the lawn. The trail into the woods was already there, but abandoned.

This picture shows how the lawn is quickly being destroyed as I work on cleaning the trail and starting the drainage work. I can't make any more water go toward the road. The ditch more or less ends two houses down, so water tends to back up to here. I am working on a drainage ditch to take the water the other way, into the woods

These are pictures of the trail I am reopening. In the second one you can see the ditch I started digging with the FEL to drain some of the water off. It needs to be deeper, but for the time being it kept the water at a depth I could drive through.

I bought a new tool for repairing the lawn and trail. When I get a garden area cleared I will level it and get it ready for growing pumpkins with this also.

The tree tipping is in progress now. Here are some photos from a week ago. I want to get the stumps out so I can cultivate the area for planting. My goal is to be ready to plant at the end of the first week of June. The area being cleared is about 80' x 120'. It will be small, but it is a start. Before you ask, yes I have chains. I thought I would try making choker slings from 1/2" rope for ease of handling. It worked, but not well enough. I went back to chains. Since I took these pictures I have tipped some trees 8 to 10" in diameter. I could barely lift one root ball with the loader, and it can lift 1900 lbs.

You might consider getting a landscape rake as well. I have a box blade but it is the landscape rake that I use much more for leveling ground and preparing a seedbed for the garden. The landscape rake is also great for collecting rocks that come to the surface.

What I don't understand is why you would ever drive around on the tractor with the ROPs folded over like that. Do you think you'll have time to put it upright and bolt it together when you start to tip? We all want you to be around to post your next project, and that's hard to do if you are pinned under your tractor.

I know where I can borrow a landscape rake, I will try it after the trees are gone.

I borrowed this to help with drainage improvements. I will also be hiring someone with an 11' hoe on a tractor to do some of the drainage work.

My thoughts exactly - no need wearing a seatbelt either.

I see that you still have snow on the ground where you are. Since you just moved there in Decemeber, I wonder how the ground will look when it gets warmer and the ground water gets a chance to evaporate? Your water problem may only be during the spring thaw. You love 4WD don't you.

Great looking pictures. Keep them coming.:)
