Never seen one this size or for a 3 pt hitch, seems to be something easy to make and useful if you want to move trees.

Looks like a neat set up, what is he driving the spades with?

Pretty simple idea, but more than one or two trees would be a real workout.

J J what do you think you'd need to use for a ram, 1" or 2"? I think 24" stroke would be long enough. The only other issue with hydraulics is it may no be heavy enough to slice into ground, may need the pounding action of the fence pounder.

Try this site if you want to dig. We grow palms here and would love to have a few tree spades but they are quite costly. Perhaps in the future.
The Tree-Toad is basically shovels with guide tubes. I would think to incorporate hydraulics a fair amount of structure would need to be added. Look at the structure of even a small tree spade compared to this.
Maybe an air or spring loaded post driver would more in line for these.
A young person looking for part time work! If I thought this would stand a chance I would surely try it, but at least in my situation, I think it would not be money very well spent. Most of the trees we dig are faily large.
Just my thoughts, Good luck, Gene

I have the Dyna-diggr, and it works quite well. It comes with two blades, one short and one long, and you can make a pounder out of it.

This would be a good place to use your remote hydraulics to run an jack hammer, or hook up a genset and get an electric one. Just about anything would be better than that fence post driver.

I would think 2 in cyl would be good enough. You might need some extra weight if your tractor does not have down pressure. If not, the hyd assisted blades might force the blade frame off the ground. There is a type of hyd circuit that has a hammer effect, sort of vibrates the blades into the ground.

i though those were called "tree spades" i have seen some local nurseries have 3pt versions

and a couple times seen skid steers with tree spades on, with a tree in it. all up on a trailer going down the road.

JJ could not crack the code on this computer? Tightened security on the lines? What is the least priced model that fits the 3 pt hitch? Please.I like the idea of even being able to pound them down? Jy

I have a CareTree 501 (28" ball) , used to have a CareTree that would dig a 20" ball, and have worked with a Dutchman capable of digging a 36" ball. If your soil is at all challenging-read rocky or heavy clay- this Tree Toad will make a nice lawn ornament. When I was researching tree spades to buy, I checked it out, and recall that it was way too expensive for what it was. When it comes to seriously digging trees (as opposed to playing around), do not underestimate the value of weight. My Bobcat 742B with 1280 lbs of tree spade is about as light as I would care to use--found out the hard way. If you do not need to dig a ball bigger than 20", use a rugged nursery spade and dig it by hand. A friend had a Dyna Digger, and was very happy with it.
