Do a search on "subsoilers" and you'll find all kinds of stuff and methods. This is the tool of choice for burying wire and small diameter pipe as you go.

Bradco and possibly Woods who bought DuAl make 3 pt trenchers. The DuAl goes down maybe 5'. The depth is adjustable so if you only need 3' that's easy to do.

Oops, I should have read that closer. A subsoiler won't get you three feet deep for water lines, but you probably know that... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I've been wanting something like that too. But I don't think I need a typical "chain saw style" for my topsoil, and can't really afford one anyway. I keep thinking I could get buy with a specially designed plow. If I don't find one, I'm eventually going to design it myself. Sort of like attaching a trenching shovel to the 3pt (only a much stronger blade of course, and a few other refinements, but that's the inspiration of it). /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I checked on pricing of the Bradco's a couple of years ago. They were running about $4K. Then I found a used DuAl on ebay for 1/3 the Bradco. While it won't work on solid rock, it will on rocky soil. I've had it pull up rocks the size of 5 gal. buckets.

I built an adapter on my loader and an aux hydraulic circuit so I can use Mini-skid-steer attachments that I can easily rent/borow. One of the primary things I used it for was a trencher.

The attachments are cheaper to rent by themselfs without the power unit. Typically about $80 per day. They are also about half the price per day of a full-sized skid-steer attachment, and they are more the right size for my smaller JD 4100 CUT.
