Thanks for the replies. Have a ride on reserved. Decided to go deeper than specs as might need to do subsoiling at a later date. It is for my cattle and everything has been designed with 5gpm flow. Not to worried about back fill with 3 tractors that have FEL's and boxblade/rake.

Smart move to get the ride on version. I recently put in 900' through moist muck soil--think peat moss. I gave up because it was too wet...i just was fighting the wet goop. I ended up hiring someone for a per hour rate (I have worked with him a lot before so I know he;s honest). It cost me about $650. Boy did I feel stupid for ever renting that trencher! He was fighting the soil sticking in his bucket also or it would have been cheaper. If your soil is not sticky or full of large rocks you can go very fast. Keep your backhoe out and get ready to pull the bigger rocks out to the side.

I put in 2" line since it costs very little to up size in diameter. I have joints every 250' but you can get bigger roles--just harder to handle too. I worked alone so I didn't want a huge role. Be sure to pressure check your joints before you bury. I know that is obvious but I did have small leaks at all but one joint! I used good quality clamps and used 2 per side at each joint (4 for each joint).

I hope your job goes smoother than mine (but all is in and working well now). My only real problem was nasty soil--I wish you the best...and a Merry Christmas too!

With sand soil DO NOT get a walk behind as you will feel like you been hit by an entire football team at the end of the day - IF your arms last that long. Second in sand a walk behind will get stuck every five minutes, I've been there done that.

Also id you get anything with tracks rather than tires, even the wide tires will get buried.

I'm always putting in run of 600' of line on a regular basis in sand and the only thing that worked well for me was a track skid steer with a trencher attachment.

The track skid steer is also sweet to bury the line once it's in.

Here is how sweet it is.
