to the gate person put in a tilted gate. seasaw style. make the halfway point just past the gate area if they dont lock it in first it tips em nose down in to a pit. they will be had on breaking and entering tresspassing and distruction of property. another option is the airport one way gates.

I say put the signs and rope back up and then put some spike strips or boards with nails in it on the ground under the rope with some leaves and stuff on it. Then when he goes in there he won't come back out and he will learn when he will have to buy new tires. Hehe

Hello from CT-
I am trying to discourage my "friendly neighbor" to stay off my property which borders his. I have a large driveway that leads to a wood lot next to my house and cant keep this guy out, have tried signs, ropes, and they drive rite over. Talked with local authorities, lawyer and still not getting them to stay off! Any good ideas on how to work this out ?
TY

if i understand correctly, he is using your driveway to access his wood lot?

a gate across the driveway does little to discourage him, and only adds inconvenience to you which has to be operated every time you come and go.

my suggestion, 3 wire barbwire as mentioned along your property line. You have no reason to cross into his property, so its not an inconvenience to you.

be forewarned, if you do take steps that successfully deter him from useing your driveway, expect an argument to ensue concerning his right to use your driveway. (ie "i have an easement to use this driveway, you cant do this") so make shure you have all your eyes dotted and tees crossed beforehand.

Sorry for the confusion, this A** has no business on my lot or my drive. I cant see it from my house, its actually next door. Hes been spoken too many times be mine and the law. He knows its private ans till drives over the sign or whatever he feels at that time. Its gotten better but he still does as he pleases and I have had it. I may put a fence up but thats costs time and money and he can still be destructive. I just want him to go away. It seems that the police and the town want no part of it. So on we go.............

Suggestions are very much appreciated

Have you signed a formal complaint against your neighbor for tresspass? Any paperwork at all with the police? The authorities will most likley do the minimum ammount necessary unless forced to do otherwise. If you swear out a formal complaint(would help to have pics or video) you should get an officers business card with a case number on it. At least that is the way it works around here. Then that number on the card gets called each and every time you note an offence. If you get voicemail, you leave a message with the time, then hang up and dial 911. This has to happen EVERY time. Your failure to call condones his illegal activities. Start a log and write this sequence down EVERY time, as well as the results/conversation of every call. Your repeated calls for assistance to the agency that your taxes are paying to provide protection will build a history in the public record of this individuals violations. Eventually the squeaky wheel gets greased. The thurough record keeping might be handy to have along when you go to the city council, chief of police or county sheriff to ask why the agency payed for your protection can't deal with this individual after your 50th call or so. Sounds like a pain? It will be...

Yes, fences cost time and money, but how much time have you spent being pissed off by the situation? I would also take no action you could be held liable for, such as hidden spike strips. Be a shame after all the aggrivation to have a knock on the door and a summons to appear in civil court for a lawsuit seeking damages, or worse...

I have a completely different idea. Why don't you get a tenant? Someone who has a hosue trailor, park it at the beginning of the problem area. Charge a very low rent. The problem is obviously that the poperty is not occupied, change that an you have a solution. One day when you mvoe there you can stop the tenancy but int he meantime you ahve a warm body on the land.

Too bad you are not in Texas. Your neighbor would be in jail for a good long time especially for repeat offenses. I had your problem in the peoples republic of Pa and ended up moving over it. We had over 400 acres in the mountains and trespassers every day. The law was worthless to do anything about it even when i would come home and find bullet holes in the house and barn. Here in Tx it's criminal trespass and can be a felony if the person is armed depending on the mood of the DA.

All I can suggest for you is good fence, maybe electric, and a lawsuit when the neighbor cuts it down. It will happen most likely. We had someone drive right through a big set of logging chains i was using for a gate in pa. They just don't care up there as there are no consequences for trespassing.

I agree with the 3-strand barbwire fence and a gate.. Rolls of wire come in various sizes, but 1000' roles can be common.. depending on where you get it.

get some 5' tpost and just hammer them in the ground every 20'... put up wood corenr posts with a brace, and an H brace inthe middle of every 100' run.. and you should be good to go... Probably put up 300+ foot a day by yourself. TSC has a small fence stretcher for single strand wire.. that and some fence staples and other misc hardware and you should be good to go.

i had to put up a similar fence to keep kids on ATV's off my property.
