Trespassing + theft issue

Got a live one, here!

I spoke with the new MSP Trooper this evening who sees no need to speak with the suspects (as did the former Trooper). He will be sending the case up to the Prosecutor's office within the next day or two.

If I was the working the case, I'd want to interview the "suspects", they may further incriminate themselves, or admit to the whole thing and make it that much easier, but it's good something is getting done..

You are right. They should be pinned down on their version - either way. That way any inconsistent statements can be used against them. They don't HAVE to talk but it never hurts to ask.

I would be curious to know if they have been back legitimately.

The way I see it 2bit, is the "perps" are so arrogant, they probably wouldn't be able to control their mouths when their "integrity" is challenged. Just a hunch though.

Update: I contacted the MSP again today (the second Trooper was reassigned after a large reorganization) and learned that because the value of the blueberries cannot be determined, the prosecutor's office will not be moving forward with charges in this case.

Give me a break; had they actually contacted me I could have provided them with an approximate value of the berries that were stolen and how close do they need to get, anyway? I had discussed this with a prosecutor in another county who felt there was enough evidence to prosecute them for larceny under $100 and trespassing. I believe they are simply too busy to worry about this sort of, "small potatoes," case and gave me an excuse.

Weighing options for the best course of action at this point. As I see it I can:

1) forget about it
2) contact the prosecutor's office directly; because of the problems in the local MSP office I don't believe there was much emphasis placed upon this case
3) contact the crooks in some manner.

At this point I am quite frustrated and need to give it a day or two. I've never understood why enforcement agencies fail to take a hard line on these sorts of "petty" violations. I believe that if they actually enforced these "little" laws and punished those who violated them (instead of waiting until a much more serious violation) we wouldn't have some of the problems with criminal activity that we do.

David.....One thing is for sure you have to get this behind you...I have followed the thread and you do not want to now let them steal your peace of mind...

I once had a trespasser that damaged my property ...I knew who it was and the Cop said there was nothing he could do...I had no video tape...He did it again and I called him and recorded the call...and he as much as admitted it..I called the cop back and he said ..still not good enough ..so I asked him if he would at least go talk to the guy and scare him...He agreed and he did and I never had another problem..I got it off my mind too.. Surely since you have the pictures...this trooper will at least go talk with them and let them know they could be prosecuted...

brin, I hear ya. This is on my mind but hasn't robbed me of my peace. It's just frustrating to t-things up for the police and prosecutor with wonderful pictures, etc and have them ignore the crime. I would be just as frustrated had this happened to a neighbor.

David, I hope you don't let it get you down but just look at it as life. I would not let it goat this point. At least not until I went and spoke to the elected prosecutor. As an elected official he/she has an obligation to hear your complaint about it. You may find that it's not the prosecutor who has rejected the case at all. I have seen many, many prosecutable cases where the cops just want to slough it off and tell the citizen to just suck it up that it makes me mad.

You have worked with the system and the system of lazy, no account, good for nothing cops has worked you over and up and down.

Talk to the elected prosecutor and the commanding officer at the investigating agency before you give up.

It's just f'ing amazing the treatment you have gotten on this.

Keep documenting your visitors with your trail camera(s), maybe get cameras with a bright flash so they know they got caught.

Figure out a "conservative" amount of your loss due to theft and deduct it on your taxes. :drink:
