Tricks to fix windshield cracks

Here in Florida we get them covered by insurance without it affecting our rates - it is a law that any insurance has to cover the windshield.

Other than replacement, I do not know of any safe way to "fix" a cracked windshield.

It isn't worth the price to fix a cracked windshield when a new one can be installed for just over $100 for just about any vehicle. I have had WS replaced on Oldsmobiles, Chevy cars, Chevy SUV and Trucks and Jeep for $100 and tax at a shop in Houston Tx. Last one in my 2007 Chevy truck here in Arkadelphia Ark was $149 total. Why pay or file on insurance for so little cost. Definitely don't bother with a junk yard.

$150? Sign me up! Last year I priced a windshield for my 97 Dodge 2500 farm truck and was quoted $450, which is probably why it still has a crack top to bottom. Maybe I need to check price else where.

It's a farm truck. Take the windshield out and forgetaboutit.

Soggy seats, ruined electronics, mildew, cab full of snow, nice house for rodents, and no heat. No thanks on that deal.

Pull the windshield and replace with industrial grade cling wrap.

On a more serious note, I have been having problems with a couple replacement windshields being easily scratched with PLASTIC ice scrapers. The first replacement was a Pilkington and the last one I had put in was made by Carlite. My installer says it can't happen and the scraper manufacturers think I'm crazy.
I'm at the point where I don't even use a scraper anymore.
