Trip to Tazewell

( I'm not looking for encouragement but advice on what I should be looking for and perhaps what I should convey to the management of PT about what I am reading on this forum. )

They could 1) improve their QA by perhaps making sure all of the hydraulic hoses have been tightened properly (one of mine is leaking and it's a $@$@# to get at); 2) they could ship a rattle can of green and black touchup paint since everyone that's had a PT shipped via Overnite has experienced quite a bit of scuffed up paint; 3) a retractable seatbelt would be a nice touch.

You'll have a blast while your there. Control yourself and maybe ask your wife to control the check book. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

On my brush cutter it is on the top of the mower deck. It's about an inch from the shaft. It is on the front side near this shaft. it is not that hard to find, but you have to know its there. The motor, as you said, is self lubricating.
On the attached picture it is at about 5 o'clock on the shaft (although it is covered in grease and dirt)
I hope this helps. Let me know and I can try to get another picture.

When I took my demonstration they had a 425 and a 422 that they let me try out, while I was using one they asked the wife if she wanted to try the other out, my wife declined the offer she said that she would let me look like an idiot there and she would learn at home. As easy as they are to operate the misses might try it out when you do and then there would be a power struggle over the seat when you get yours home , that's something that I wanted to warn you about ahead of time.

If the wife falls in love with the power trac, you might as well buy 2.

Thanks for the photo, Bob.

The deck of my brushhog looks nothing like your picture. There's only a motor mounted to the deck, no bracing, no visible shaft, and no visible zerk. I guess PT changed the design.

My recommendation is to call PT and ask about greasing your mower. There may be a permanently greased bearing, or maybe the motor bearing supports the blades so no additional bearing is required.

Take care,

All very good comments here.

This class you guys keep referring to. When I went to Tazewell, they showed me where the grease fittings were and how to change the filter....took about 5 minutes.

Is there actually a class now for this? Just wondered.

That was basically the class for me to, if I had any questions I could ask them. They went over the maintance schedule and how to perform them on the hydroulics and lubrication. They showed how to hook up the attachments on the machine Scot took us out to a bottom just above the plant where he demonstrated how to use the mini hoe and the fel and got off and let me have it with the fel on the machine and told me to try it out. When I went there I paid particular attention to how the 422 and the 425 were laid out as far as ease of servicing and at that time the 425 looked far easier to get to to service the machine. I don't beleive he showed me anything on how to service the attachments. On this forum I learned of a grease fitting that was left out where the two top covers meet on the channel between your feet as you are operating it. During the class they made special mention of servicing this grease plug. If you had a lot of questions naturally the class would have lasted longer, but everything that they went over seemed pretty strait forward to me.

The class for me in 2000 lasted about 1.5 hours. They had a service manual and we went through some it. I don't think they have this anymore. If you ask about the hydraulic flow and the electrical wiring they may go into more details. I did not get a chance to really try any accessories, but that is important too. Ask about fuse locations.

Toy, I'm curious...how is the 425 easier to service vs. the 422...or did I misread that? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
